Well with tranny fluid time upon me once again I dreaded the horrible mess of dropping the pan to change the filter and ATF+3. My little brain started grinding for a solution. Years ago when I worked in auto parts I remember seeing drain plug kits for auto trannies. So off to the auto store I go. With a filter kit, 4 quarts of atf, and a tube of weatherstrip adheasive in hand I began my search. No luck at Napa or Autozone so the next stop was Pep Boys. I went to the oil and filter section. I spotted the replacement drain plug section and looked around. Eureaka! Motormite makes an add on drain plug kit. Oil tite is the name of the line, part #65241. Back to the garage for the install I go. I pulled the tranny pan and cleaned it up. I read the destructions on the package and located a spot in the pan where no mechanicals would contact the new drain plug. I drilled a 1/4 inch hole in the pan and then enlarged to 1/2 inch per the instructions.
The design is simple, a hollow bolt with 2 nylon gaskets and a nut to squeeze them together. A 1/8 inch plug is tapped into the center of the hollow bolt. I filed all the burrs off of the hole and dabbed the weatherstrip adheasive on the pan. I sandwiched the gaskets and tightened the nut.
With the drain plug installed and tightened I was ready to adjust the bands, install the new filter and install the pan. Four quarts of atf+3 later the truck is on the road and the next fluid change will be much more pleasant.

Mine always leaked, I hate those things... though I never used the weatherstrip adhesive....

Yeah, I always use weatherstrip adhesive on trany pans. I tried the permetex route but that stuff always gave me trouble. Weather strip adhesive holds the gasket to the pan and never seems to leak

You should have gone with the re usable gasket that the dealer offers. I've dropped the pan on my truck twice using the same gasket, and the one on the race car has been off several times with zero leak issues.
