Tranny dead with 1K left in Warranty!

Shelled the Tranny Sunday after making an appointment for Monday with the dealer to have it checked out for flaring between shifts(1st to 2nd and 3rd to 4th) and lack of pulling power.
They ended up replacing everything but the case!
I had my wife follow me and I actually was able to drive it to the dealler but I think they had to pull it into the shop...
Great thing was >> I got the truck back on Wed afternoon and they had it all fixed up! $100 deductible
I have had a lot of trouble with this dealer in the past. It is amazing what new ownership will change!

Thats news to my ears... Mines going in on Monday. I hope he goes ahead and rebuilds the tranny, intead of just swapping a converter in. Ive known the tranny guy at the dealer for a long time so he should do it up right.

How does yours pull now?

How many miles?

I'm not in ANY WAY trying to get on you but I have the same year truck and tranny. I pull a trailer every day and knock on wood haven't had any problems in the last 17,000 in-town miles.

So....how would you say you drive it? Manual shift? Foot to the floor? Pull heavy? Normal commuter? Etc? Did you do any service to it (i.e. band adjustment, filter/fluid, flush?) Again, I'm not trying to point fingers, just wondering how my tranny will hold up.

I'm glad you got it fixed!

Hey guy's...
I got this truck about 20K ago and I LOVE it!
I drive normal... not too heavy but I don't hang out ot the stoplight. I pull 5-6K cargo trailer everyday 75-250 miles per day in town and on the hwy. It is a work truck but I clean it up and take it to church on Sunday. (Until I get the Benz done)
I installed the PP about 1500miles after I got the truck and I started to notice a flare in the shifting about 2500 ago. I adjusted the bands as per Spec's and it seemed to tighten the truck up a bid and the dealer said that it was what they would have started out with. It lasted about a week and then started again. It escalated pretty rapidly to the point that when you pulled away from a stoplight >> Everyone in the truck ooked at each other and wondered who was going to be the one pushing it to the side of the road....
Edge600>>> have your tranny man check it with a hammer... LOL
Good luck... I was pretty lucky! (about time)

Do you think the previous owner towed much with it our had a box installed ? Could Dodge say what they thought caused the failure ? Thanks in advance for an honest reply and may the next 100000 be trouble free .

It is really hard to tell how the truck was treated before I got it because I bought it from a dealership. It has a "hide-a-ball" gooseneck hitch in the back with light hookup and I could see that it had been off road becasue the dealer missed about 200lbs of dirt stuck up under the bed of the truck.
Thing is it ran great for about 17K miles for me with the programmer installed and then started down hill slowly so you just noticed something about once a week and then gradualy more often.
Of course the dealer is not going to admit that there is a pattern and they hate these forums because I am able to ask a question on here and within a day I am able to get a sample of thousands of truck owners with my same settup all over the country with similar symptom in different stages so I know what is going to happen next.... Powerful tool and it helps me to NOT get ripped off at the dealer! For instance... how many people that visit this forum will every buy a fuel or air filter from the dealer?? Like I said.. They hate them!
Truck is running great so far... I have 200 mi on it and no slips..
Good luck.
