tranny conversions
I need some facts about the NV4500 and 47rh and re will they fit behind a 92 dodge 2 wheel drive I know the tranny on mine is weakish (its the 518 tranny) so I am looking to replace it and since I am fairly new at the cummins thing I could use some help with this thanks to all who reply

What's the question? I've got the 4500. I would not want an auto behind my diesel engine, but that's me. You can go through countless threads about auto to manual transmissions conversions. Mine started with a getrag so I'm assuming it was easier, advanced adapter has a nice kit.

ya I think just going witha rh or a re would be a lot easier since I wouldn't have to add a clutch pedal and stuff I like a manual but I dont want to be having no fun with that big truck in the city and thanks guys.

hey-Hey!!!,
Seems to me you'll need the 94-2002 engine plate( the thing between trans and block ), and a Gen 2 starter with either ov those trans-es. What the driveshaft has to look like I don't know...I'm thinnking same between 518 and 47RH but shorter for NV4500.
cheers,
Douglas

Drive shaft needs to be shortened for the 47RH because of running the thicker engine plate. I don't know how you would control the 47RE but I am sure it can be done.

before getting into a 47 r - whatever -, you might want to investigate ways to get the 518 to be a more solid performer. You might save some bucks there.
Personally, I don't like an auto to "think" for me when I drive: hence the NV45 conversion. By the way, the clutch pedal is a piece of cake install in these trucks, so is the clutch MC and most parts to do the conversion. As mentioned above, Advance Adapters might be the most straightforward solution.

You can run a 47re if you have a stand alone controller or a manual valve body, the 47rh is mechanical and will shift just like your a518 but you will have a lockup converter withe 47rh or re.
You will need the thicker engine adapter plate from 2nd gen dodge since it has a thicker torque converter, also a 2nd gen starter, 2nd gen flexplate, and you may or may not need to shorten your rear driveshaft. Some say they fit fine, others have to shorten them depending on club cab or reg cab. You got a 2wd so you won't need to worry about lengthening front driveshaft.
I thought about a manual swap too but since my truck is an auto, it sounds much easier just to upgrade my auto and i got a 47rh for a good deal so it looks like I'll go that route on my truck.
