Tranfer case removal in order to get tranny out

Hello everyone - I am in the process of dropping the transmission. I was going to pull it with the transfer case but if I can split the transfer case easily, I think that would be better.

So can anyone state how to seperate the transmission and transfer case in order to leave the transfer case and drop the tranny?

Thanks
scott

You can split them or leave them together, but if you split them, the t-case comes out first. You can't leave it in by itself, since there would be no way for it to hold itself in place. You'll hear this both ways and it's just a matter of preference. Personally, I always split them. It's easy. I think there are 6 bolts holding the two together. Remove the, then unplug anything going to the t-case and it should slide right out. Good luck with it!

I pulled my trans and tcase at the same time. Then split it while it was on the ground. In a way it was better that I pulled them together. I had to hammer my t-case apart from the tranny. Being as your in WI, i'm sure your's will be as "corroded" as mine and it just won't slide off easy. If you don't have an extra pair of hands to catch the tcase, it could make for a bad day.

Thanks - I pulled the transfer case first, you are right, it was a pain. I did it mainly to reduce weight since it was just me.

Tranny is out
