Train horn install
Hey guys.. Got the newest toy! I just picked up a detachable 3 chime train horn with compressor and 1.5 gallon air tank and have a few questions bout it.
First off is mounting places. I bought from hornblasters.com and they have a small install gallery but its mostly just pictures.
They say to mount the compressor somewhere that it will stay mostly dry but every truck install i see its mounted under the bed. Seems to me like it could get really wet there. Also They say never mount compressor in an inclosed area. But all the car installs are done in the trunk. Would a truck box be to inclosed ya think?
And lastely for now, How weather resistant are the actual horns? is it alright for them to get wet? cause most of them i see on trucks are also mounted under the bed. and i donno about where those people live.. But we get alot of snow and rain here. Any advice would be great thanks.

My brother has a 2008 Ford F350 and he just mounted a set under the cab/bed area on the passenger side. I don't know what kind he got but its louder then $*&%! We also get lots of rain in our area.

Well i have a metal tool box and i mounted everything inside the box and put the horns on the bottom of the box. I have no problems with the compressor it still gets plenty of air. And my tool box isn't air tight either. I might at the most drill a few holes so it can suck fresh air in easier.
I go snap a few photos.

If you dont mind i would like to know as mush as i can about how you set yours up. Did you self install? I opened all my stuff last night and it seems like a few things are missin its not all adding up right and the directions i got with it are crap.

I mounted two compressors in my tool box, tough to figure out from the pic, but this is the shot of the passenger side compressor, tucked in the top corner of the box, the other is mirror image mounted on the drivers side, all relays and pressure switches are mounted in the box. 8.5 gallon tank is mounted under the rear bumper, horn is mounted through existing holes in the frame. here is the pic of compressor.

K i have my mounting figured out. Im preety much goin almost the same way you are 91rangerturbo. But im still pretty lost. where does your horn button mix in with the rest and howd you get it in your cab. My button wire is really short, was yours? did you have to splice it to get it long enough? Whats that orange wire that goes down through the bottom of your truck box?

aw come on, don't install a electronic button, no way to control the blast, gotta have a hand valve on there so you can talk the horn......... otherwise it is hella loud all the time.

i have a lanyard valve, still trying to figure a nice place to locate it in the cab. where the air lines won't look ridiculous.
i've been thinking to place it near the hand grip on the "a" post. (where some people put gauges).
