Tq. convertor drain plug?

I am needing to change the tranny fluid this weekend. I did a search on a lot of old threads, but could not find an answer. Do these newer transmissions have a drain plug on the torque convertor? I just turned over 30,000 mi. and want to change out as much fluid as possible. We tow a 8,000lb toy hauler in the summer, so the fluid has gotten warm. If no tq. convertor drain plug, I will just change the fluid again in the spring. I won't unhook the cooler lines to pump the fluid out as I don't have anyone to help me put the fluid back in as it pumps out. (daughter is only 8 and wife said "NO!") Just trying to get out as much fluid as possible and replace it with the fresh stuff.

No drain plug.

You can remove the return line and pump through in neutral for a full flush but I think most just do a filter and fluid top up every 20-30K or so.

I'm a stick guy, no slush boxes for me.

the only way to get a ful fluid change is to attach a flush machine to it, it allows new fluid to come in and old fluid to leave while the engine is running. not a good idea to run the converter dry

Just change the filter and drain the pan every 20,000-30,000 miles, you will be fine........no flushes.

I am not a fan of flushes either. just does not make sense if the filter is still not getting changed. still have to drop the pan to do that. i change mine once a year which comes out to about 25k miles

Search this site for more info.

There is a thread on here somewhere which talks about how to change all the fluid, 4 liters at a time by removing the return line from transmission.

I followed the instruction and it went great.

The idea is to first drop the pan and do the filter. Then refill the pan. Then pull the rear line off the tranny and pump out 3-4 litres by placing the tranny in neutral (Taking all safety precautions of course). Refill the pan and repeat until new fluid comes out of the return line. Expect to go through 15-16 litres of fluid. This gets at the fluid in the torque convertor.

I did this because I bought a used truck with unknown mileage discoloured tranny fluid. I wanted it all gone gone!

Change filter and clean out the pan. Replace pan and fill, add a couple extra quarts, then disconnect the rear line and start the truck while someone continues pouring new fluid in. You have a little time so run thru the gears, remimber it does not flow in park, then put in neutral and watch, at the first sigh of a cough shut it off. Re-connect the line and happy pouring - I have done this twice and have gotten 13-14 quarts in each time.

The tip is to take one of the dead quarts, cut a small hole in it to get the return line in, place it betwen the line and trans, pointing into the bucket. Some guys use hose but that did not work for me, it made a bid mess.

Do not flush it with a machine, the stories of trannys failing after a flush go on and on.

Drop the pan, change the filter, re-install the pan, and refill until it reads full on the stick, with the truck idling in neutral. It's simple and it's effective, no having to deal with return lines or pumping, and no worrying about damaging your trans. You said you use it to tow, so just do this once a year and you'll be fine.

If you drop the pan and filter, drain the fluid and then drop the valve body a fraction of an inch it will allow the fluid to drain out of the convertor and you'll need to add right at 18 qts.
It doesn't do what a flush does but you will certainly get 90% of the fluid out of the system and 1/2 of the convertor.
