Thumbs up TPS problem fixed, Thanks DAVE GOEREND!

I recently started having problems with my 97. It would either hold D way to long before shifting into OD(not Lock up), or it would shift down from OD into D and back.
I was driving it at the time it got really bad, of course it was pouring down rain, at night, and couldn't get to a computer to look it up. So, I called a friend of mine who was at the computer and he started tracking it down. I suspected the TPS, so I gave him that heads up. He calls Dave, now this is on FRI NIGHT, at around 6-7 o clock. Dave calls him back, (my buddy had to leave a message, we all know Dave is VERY busy) and tells him some things to have me check, namely the TPS. In the meantime, I get a break in the rain and spray the TPS real good with electronic parts cleaner and that fixes it.
The next day, I find out I got a fax from somebody named "Dave Goerend" from my old workplace. You see, when I ordered my parts from Dave, I gave him my work fax number. I no longer work there, but am still good friends with those that do. Anyway, he sent a fax saying he was trying to call me at home, that somone called him and told him I was having problems and just wanted to make sure I was ok. I was totally blown away.
For someone that has never met me, half the nation away, on a FRI night, to go out of his way and fax a letter wanting to check on me was just unbelievable. I know the local tranny guy, and I can guarantee "Joe Schmoe" that he doesn't know is not going to get in contact with him on a FRI night. Much less go out of his way to fax a letter wanting to check on him.

To any of you that has ever had any reservations of doing business with Goerends due to it being so far away, the man really cares. He will do everything and beyond to make sure you are taken care of. I do not know how he does it, honestly. I know a lot of people call him and talk to him for hours, and never even buy anything. I didn't spend enough with him to even cover half of a new transmission, and this is what he did for me. He is a very pleasant person to do business with and to talk to. Just wanted to give him a good word.

I forgot to add, I did adjust everything to spec, with a Snap- On computer. Got my bracket to primary ball stud to 5", base TPS voltage to 1.0V, WOT at 3.99, and the TV cable at 3/16" at WOT. I think I got everything covered. I also drove it hooked up and made sure all pressures and switches in the tranny were working to spec. Works good.

Dave is probably the best person i have ever done business with. I called him when i ran into a small problem putting my billet input shaft in, and he walked me through it, and i found the problem. I will be going with his full tranny when the money comes around-should be soon, and I cant wait. He knows his stuff, and he knows how to take care of his customers. Plus, he is more of a small business than ATS or the like. I like supporting the family man if i can.

The guy is awsome. When my trans went I was in supposed to be leaving for vacation in a week. I called him up and he was going on vacation too. He didn't have a converter that he could ship immeadiately and recommended I talk to DTT. I don't know if any other vendor would do that. I'm happy with the DTT converter but I can see myself doing business with Dave in the future.

Do a search for potentiometers.

I put one on my truck quite sometime ago. Cost all of $2.00, aftr I got it setup I just taped it up real good and left it connected to the harness under the hood.

No more problems..................

In case you didn't understand, I was just singing praise to Dave and his help. I fixed the TPS. I don't need the potentiometer and personally wouldn't fix it like that anyway. I would go back with original TPS part. I understand that the TPS is a high priced potentiometer, but it is built to fit the throttle shaft and bracket. Anyway, it works good now, and really that is all that goes wrong with a pot anyway is that they get a worn spot where the plate always rides and needs cleaning periodically, or the contact gets loose.
