Get the AT. I have MT's, not the same tire, but MT's on my truck and mostly drive on the road or dry off road. The MT's look a lot better, but the AT's will drive better and be much quiter on the road.

I had the MT's. were quiet on the road, wore evenly BUT wore VERY fast. I probably only got 20k tops. Probably closer to 15k or 18k. Fronts wore first so it wasn't power related. Also IMO their way overpriced. I had Baja Claws before the MT's and they lasted longer. I now have Cepek FCII's and they've already lasted longer than both the others and their still 1/2 there. I liked the MT's but they didn't last. My tire size is 33x12.5x18 so maybe smaller narrower ones are better but I wasn't impressed.

Wow, that's horrible Faulkner. I've ran 2 sets of M/T's on my truck so far. I managed 30k out of my first set, and I don't drive easy. That's a 35x12.5x17. We also netted that same mileage out of my fathers 37x13.5x17 M/Ts.
I personally won't run another tire on my truck besides a Toyo. They have worn great, the traction is good and they balance/run out better then some passenger tires I have seen.
I can't comment on the A/T's on a Dodge diesel but on our 99' PowerStroke we are running the A/T's and they are holding up great with 15k so far. Good traction, quite and they are priced alot less then the M/T.
It's sortive a trade off, if you got a lifted truck the M/T's just make it look that much better, they really are not useful on road but i've come into more situations then I care to like where the A/T just wouldn't get me through.

I have the AT's , 15k and they are at the wear bars. They balance nice, ride nice, and are quiet, but at almost $300.00 a pop, I am dissapointed.
The Les Schwab Dealer told me I should go with MT's next time, simply because they start out with 3/16" deeper tread. I do not like the looks of the MT's, too off road, with the huge side bars.
I honestly wish they would make a 325/65/18 in their new HT, that's a nice looking tire, very similar to what we used to run on the big trucks. And definitely more in line with the personality of "my" truck.

Just the sidewall tread, it not appealing to me anymore, plus it's more work to keep them clean.
I am not into the off road, mud slinging scene any longer, at least not with my truck (used to have an FJ40), the wife has a 2005 Jeep Rubicon for that.
I am not trying to dis the MT, it's just not my style.[coffee]

You can dis them all you want, it's no skin off my back. :) I just didn't fully understand your statement.
They are tuff to keep clean, especially the sides of your truck. lol
-Edit- Sent you a PM JJ, so I don't clutter up this mans thread

Nate, where are you at in Minnesota? I was born in Mankato, moved to Spokane in '66' When I was 11 yrs old.
I still have numerous relatives in the state, Mankato, Janesville, St Clair, Egan, Hastings, Brainerd. Ever few years we come back for a visit, try to time the absense of the "skeeters"[laugh] Guess I'm kinda hyjacking the thread / Sorry.

I know I really liked them, the looks, the ride and the fact they were pretty quiet considering the semi aggressive tread. I just had no luck with wear, which also wouldn't bother me if they weren't so expensive.

Did you keep up on the rotates?
Working for one of the larger tire distributors in the U.S. I get them for a frickin steal. One of the reasons why I like them so much. [roll]
I've had both the MTs and two sets of ATs, they are both great tires compared to others I've owned(BFGs, Nittos, Procomps). Nitto and BFG will never get my money EVER again.

Did you keep up on the rotates?
about every 5k. I would blame the rotation but I have yet to rotate the new ones I have and it's been at least 15k miles with no problems.

I,M on my 2nd set of AT,S love the tire, quiet, etc.Poor wear out of the first set, approx 25 k ,i do tow heavy ,so that likely reduces the wear.Michelin has now come out with a 285/55/20 e rated that i will try next, also much cheaper.

holy heck they make a 60inch wide tire, let me see some pics of those, one tire has got to be as wide as the truck itself, 5ft wide tires ftw

I got m/t' s on mine and I'm very happy with them. I've got about 15k on them and prob 65% tread left. I do rotate every 5k and keep them aired up. straight pipe you won't hear them on the road with muff you know they are there. Night and day difference from BFG M/T got 20k on thoes will not be buying those ever again chopped to much on inside. Toyo wear perfect.

My vote is for the MT's, I've had two pairs and they wear great, road noise is minimal for a mt, I rotate mine every 5k and will see 40k easy.

I've got about 20K miles on the AT's and they are great in all aspects except wear. Mine are sitting at a little less than half so they will get somewhere around 30-35K which really isn't bad but I still was hoping for more. I was told the MT is the way to go as they last as long or longer but the extra bucks per tire makes me shy away. I figure if it's that bad that I need an MT I'll get some chains!
As for the earlier comment about BFG and Nitto, I agreet entirely, never again. Terrible tires for me on my past diesel trucks. The comment about the MT's having 3/16" more tread, look on the Toyo site, they have 2/32" more tread and that's a lot less than the 3/16" one guy was quoted from his dealer.

It's a 305/60/20, I had that tire, it wore great. I'm now(today) putting on a D(3195lb) rated 325/60/20 Pirelli Scorpion ATR, I hope they don't suck. Anyone know anything about them?

I noticed a couple of you posted that you are not impressed with the wear and would only get about 30-35k miles out of the TOYO AT Tire. Dont these tires have a 40k mile treadlife warranty?

These tires get scarey when you get the tread life down,my 1st set should have been taken off at 20 k.

Right there with you alboy. My brother/boss had a pair of 33 on 17 M/Ts that were totally gone at 16 k. Rotated em three times while he had em, We do tow alot him especially but only around 4k lbs. Even so, i was there when he bought em and took em off and 16k?!?! Thats just not right. I love the look of em more than any other but the price and his experiance pushed me away from them.

Only in Washington.... went out shopping, Perfection Tire in Spokane, told me they could not put any tire, less than 10 ply on my truck.(3500RAM)
My current tires(toyos) are 8 ply, just stopped in at Les Schwab, they did not blink an eye, at replacing what I currently have, they looked at my valve stems(steel), you are good to go!

I'd love to switch to Toyos because of the higher load ratings. But my (only 3000lb each, D rated) 35'' BFG Mud Terrain KM2s are still going strong with 37K miles on them. I should have no problem going 50K +, or about the same as I got out of my BFG 285 ATs.
I'd love the higher load rated tire....but im not paying through the nose for a set of Toyo tires and watch them wear out at 20K or so. Has anybody been able to get a set of Toyo Muds to go 50K????? (or even ATs)
I guess I will have to stick with 35'' BFG KM2s again, next go round.

That's what their web site says and the LT tires are suppose to have 50K mile warranty. Guess when it comes time I'll push a little and see what happens. Maybe the tread gets harder and lasts longer the less of it there is!!! This is the first time I've heard of the problems with the MT though. From what I heard before most guys were getting 40K-50K out of their MT's.
