Towing with the VA box for the first time!!
Well, I finally got to tow with my new VA box and all I can say is WOW!!! The power increase down low is amazing and with the boost elbow in it really picks up when the boost hits about 15 psi.
When just hotrodding around, the highest EGT's I could see were abuot 1100. Now, with the trailer in tow I bounced it off 1300 once! I was really suprised by how fast the temps jumped up there in the low RPM range of 4th gear. Pulling a really steep hill, a guy pulled in front of me and would not get going. I ended up loosing all my momentum and lugging thr engine down to about 13oo RPM's in 4th gear. The power kept coming back up, but the egt's SHOT right up to 1300 so I got out of the peddle a bit and they settled down some.
When you guys are towing heavy loads, how do you control your EGT's?? Just back down on the throttle?
Oh, BTW the trailer weighs about 8500#

(1) A less restrictive air filter, such as a BHAF or an AFE Progaurd 7. And a "cold air" box of some kind.
(2) Larger catback exhaust, at least 4 inches. Might help a little. Did me.
(3) A little larger turbo. For me, an HX40/35 hybrid (a Dodgezilla) worked best to control my EGT's. You'll have to be careful to figure out the right size exhaust housing.
You may have to upgrade the injectors to handle the air a little better, but if you're towing and worried about EGT's, don't go insane. RV275's have worked well for me, but there are other, equivalent types on the market that are said to be much better.

I already am running an open air filter. Seems to let the turbo spool up a bit faster. I am kinda done with the bombing right now, I don't think I want to head down that slippery slope anymore.
I don't think the VA box is adjustable, is it?? It is a sealed box, alot like the EZ if I am right.

About the best way would be to just downgear, and use rpm's in 3rd to get you rolling good again, and then row back into 4th and pour the coal at it The EZ is adjustable too. There is a little jumper in there with 3 different settings you can use. Dont know if the VA is the same or not?

I have the Van Aaken V5 and think it works great for towing. I
started with a 4" exhaust and added RV275 injectors with a BHAF.
I think this is the best towing combo. I have never gotten above
1200 on the EGT meter , even when towing my 6500# trailer up
in the mountains. My EGT probe is pre-turbo. Two week ago I was
passing cars at 65mph pulling my trailer going up into the foothills
with no problems or EGT issues. In 6th gear without towing I can
stomp on the pedal at 60 mph and instantly hit 31# of boost and
be at 90 mph real fast
