Towing tuner w/o EGT problems?

Well I tried towing my trailer today ( 29' 5er ) and the truck needs a little more torque... it won't quite hold 60 mph going up some moderate hills. Is there a tuner that would give me 100 lbs of torque without having to worry about EGTs and gauges? I was thinkin of a VA 3.1 or EZ on level 1 or maybe quad's ZXT ?

Quads XZT would be your best bet. You can even get a commander for gauges. I actually would get gauges before a box. Don't want to lug the engine and that is exactly what a pyro will tell you even running stock.

I sure like my edge/att ,even with it set on L 2 40 HP-100 lbs ,you can easily push 1400 plus on long 7% grades, your stock truck will hit 1350 ,it must defuel at that pt,as mine would not exceed it,a pyro is a absolute must with ANY tuner.

Ive got a XZT tow box on my 06, and pull a 25 TT lots, there isnt a hill in BC Canada that I cant pull and maintain even excelerate speed, and my temp`s are always good, and theres nothing but mountains up here in the North. and Ive even got as good as 16 mpg pulling, this is on paper, the overhead is not very accurate.

Thanks for the replies... I was looking to raise the torque up from the SO 460 up to around 550 - 600, pretty much like a stock HO. Thought there might be a tuner that could do that without EGT problems. BP.

Things get... melty. Holes in pistons. Valve seats falling down and smacking the pistons. Just bad things in general.

First, I would still run gauges. But anyway, the EZ or the XZT with a boost elbow should be fine. I went from 1350 degrees with the EZ set at level 2 (50hp) down to 1000 degrees with the boost elbow. The extra boost helps lower the EGTs.

I towed my 10k-plus trailer on a 3.5 week camping trip last summer with a Quadzilla boost fooler and a Superchips on "tow" mode. EGT's were always fine, even in the hot, SoCal temps. The only time I hit the slow lane was Southbound on the 5 fwy, coming up the Grapevine. I hit the slow lane and kept the EGT's at 1250. Stayed at 45-50mph. The outside temp was in the triple digits. Besides that, EGT's were never an issue at any point. The Grapevine hill is a big deal. It is the only time my clutch pedal started feeling really stiff/sticky/hard.

Quad XZT for over two years now towing a 10k plus 5th wheel and no problems. I never see EGT's above 1300*.

I agree with all stating gauges. You would be surprised at what happens at stock levels. Especially towing.

All that said and all you want is just a "little", then quad xzt just might be your thing. However! If you get a smarty and just run it on lower levels to tow, you got your "little", and unloaded with midlevels of smarty brings you up to HO levels and highest level around 400 rwhp with that little '03.

Anyway you go, invest in the gauges.

I was up there (grapevine) last July, temps were 100+, towing 9000+, stayed in fast lane going 65. (afraid to go any faster for CHP) highest temps 1300* egts, 210* coolant. Smarty sw7. Plenty of pedal left too...

My wife and kid thouhgt it was funny passing cars and watching the looks on their faces as we cruised by in our big ol' rig!!

I am wanting a smarty. I love the key count thing. And it sounds like a good towing tuner as well.

Thanx soulezoo.
