Towing 17000 lbs with auto trans?

So I am in the market for a 40' toy hauler. The one I have my eye on comes in at about 17000 lbs wet. My trans is the 48re auto in a 2007 4x4. Motor will most likely remain stock. At most, MAYBE a Smarty Jr. I have put on a turbo back exhaust to remove the cat, and have a less restrictive muffler.

Before I ever tow this thing, I am putting in a triple disk converter/valve body, billet input shaft, a stronger flex plate, and a high capacity, deep trans pan.

Question is. With these trans mods, should my trans be fine while towing this? I know a manual is the best choice, but that is not a option.

Give Goerands Transmissions a call and Dave will tell you everything you will need to do to make the trans hold for many miles. It sounds like you have most of the bases covered, but he will make sure.

about every other month I get a load of alfalfa in Kansas and pull to Texas with a gross weight of 34,000 lbs. plus for the total rig

my goerend handles it easily

i also pull a 4 horse living quarters trailer regularly that will weigh what your toyhauler weighs

Gearing will play a big factor 4:10 would be my choice if you pull in any hills. I pull my toy hauler with my 07 without a problem its a little lighterAbout 15500 but i also pull my jetski behind it. I had 4:10 in my 04 and have 3:73 in my 07. I really liked the gears in the 04 for heavy loads

You will be fine with the mods you have mentioned. I pull 20K + or - for the last 100k miles throughout the US. No problems. Put some good fluid in there and watch the temps and you are golden.

P.S. Personally I wouldn't worry about the input shaft or the flex plate unless you plan on adding power to it also.
