Tow Haul switch operation

Someone please clarify this for me. According to the owners manual, the tow haul on an 05 changes shift points on acceleration and on the down hill side will downshift it to 3rd gear with prolonged pressure on the brake pedal.
I just towed for the first time and I did not see any downshifting with prolonged braking. Is this thing not working or am I misunderstanding the owners manual??

Hey Pull Dog,
I've got an 05 also, I bought mine used and mine works as shown. Did you buy your truck new or used? I'd heard of a "reflash" the dealer could do to put the 05 "back" to the 03-04 version of ECM logic. When you "switch on" the Tow/Haul button, does your truck "hold" 3rd gear, or does it up shift into
4th gear a little later/firmer than normal? If it holds 3rd till you hit the button, your ECM "has" been reflashed and you've lost the "braking feature" that was once there. If it shifts into 4th after accelerating then it should be working as a normal 05 truck. I hope this helps....

I bought the truck used with 23,000 miles. It is all OEM stock and I am the first person to tow with it. Last week was the first time I towed and actually I was a little disappointed in the operation of the Tow/ Haul feature. It sure would be nice if it worked like the owners manual says. In other words it would shift back into 3rd gear with prolonged braking while in tow haul mode. All I noticed was that when moving along in 4th (OD) gear if I pushed the tow haul button it immediately shifted into 3rd and stayed there until I let off the accelerator, then it shifted back into 4th and stays there. So I quickly decided that I need to remember to put it in tow/haul mode before starting out.
So at this point I'm wondering if something is wrong. I did notice it holding all the gears a little longer when accelerating from stop. This is what it is supposed to do.

My '07 should be similar to yours...I've only had it downshift a couple times for me on the brakes...and I was on them a bit...takes a while for it to do it. Other observations, in normal, the TC will lockup under normal driving at 50mph, and if you're on the throttle for a while accelerating or going up a big hill towing and it stays in 3rd for a while, it will lock the TC there too...however, with tow/haul on, under light load, it will lock up the TC at 30mph in 3rd gear(I use this all the time around town and going slow on hills to save fuel instead of running up on the converter) and will remain locked up until about 47ish mph, all under light load. Get a load behind it and make it work my numbers I just told you go out the window.

My 04 will downshift on downhills w/the CC on when it gets about 3mph over the set speed. A lot of people with newer rigs have had the re-flashed so they will hold 3rd in T/H.

I checked the time it takes for my truck to downshift while on the brakes and it seemed to be between 10-12 seconds. When I did that, I only applied enough brake as to activate the brake lights.
