torque conveter question
I just put an ats 5 disc converter in my truck. the thing is sweet, except for when you put it in drive or reverse for the first time of driving for the day the truck either almost stalls or shuts off completely a couple of times. after that its fine all day. its a pain when it is 10 degrees out its even worse the colder it is. i have amsoil synthetic in it so it should be ok in the cold. just curious if anyone else had this problem. never did this till i put this converter in.

Just a guess....... are you idleing for a bit before driving off at start of day.... giving tranny time to fill up w/ fluid? Give it 60 sec on first start up, in neutral, and see how it does.

Sounds like all the LU clutches are dragging when cold and fluild not thinned out inside converter. If fluid is not ATF+4 spec, then get it out. No snake oil, unless converter mfg said otherwise. Question the converter builder!!!! JMHO

i am letting it warm up at least 10-15 minutes its in the teens now in the morning. it has syntech atf +4 synthetic in. i doubt it is draining back. i thing the clutches are probally hanging up like you said.its worse when it is put in reverse almost always shuts off. into drive seems to be better. it is an ats converter. so i hope it was built good. thanks for all your help
