Yes. The valve body will up all the pressures, and the TC will hold a lot more power than the stock one. Many people run a lot of HP through their stock trannies with a TC and VB. A lot of it depends on how you drive as to how well its gonna hold up, and if you pull or drag race a lot. Im guessing that as new as your truck/tranny is right now, it would be the best time for a new TC and VB because your clutches/clutch packs should still be in really good shape. I dont know a lot, but im sure it will make a big difference. It will put more power to the ground, and you will be able to run more HP without blowing the tranny apart as easy.

Yeah, what he said. It is definitely worth the money, just for the better power transfer if nothing else. However, with my 47RE, I slipped my stock overdrive clutch packs at roughly 850 ft lbs of torque. The 48RE in your 04.5 should be a little tougher as I believe you have a few more disks than mine, but plan on your limit being right around the 850 ft lb mark as well.

My tranny upgrade was the best money I have spent so far. If you do go with a TC & VB, you should seriously consider getting TC lock up controller. I ran my truck for a few hundred miles with out mine, man what a difference with the tranny after it was installed. Shifts much smoother, and I have control over that expensive ATS Triple-Loc TC and VB. The controller box (ATS Commander) will also, supposedly, increase the life of the tranny, which I believe.

I am debating weather or not to go with a TC & VB upgrade also, but with 155K miles I'm thinking I need to overhaul the tranny also. I talked to one local shop and they won't use aftermarket parts, so I'm in the market for a good tranny shop in Nebraska.
I could drive to Georand Brothers in Iowa, but I really don't want to sit around in the shop for two days.
Then I think about trading in the truck and getting a new one. I'm so confused!
Does your TC lock up in 1st & 2nd gear too?

Yes and no. 1st will lock if you manually put it in 1st gear. 2nd gear will lock in drive, if the Commander is set to its lowest setting. If this is wrong, someone please correct me, but this is my expierience. I have not towed with this set up, yet.

The Comander just sets the speed that the converter locks...does not matter what position the shifter is sitting in.
OEM the converter locks at 48 mph (or something close). That is why you will never see it lock in first or second gear. You can drop that speed way down with the comander...lower than 20 if you want, but be carefull...it won't let go and you could stall (at least some nice bucking). Takes a while to get used to it.

I did the same as AK. It cost me $700 for the install of the TC & VB at local tranny shop. I had Dave's Diesel in Angola IN do the Commander install, as the shop that did the main tranny job would not touch the Commander.
For what it is worth, Rick at Daves Diesel said the ATS Commander box was the best performing design he has seen so far, out of the few tranny boxes out there.

AK RAM, talk to John at affordable transmission. I bet he would have installed those parts for you and he does really good work. I had him build me a c6 for my old ford with a 390 and it was a killer trans. I was very happy with it. He has also built 3 other trannies for people I know and everyone is very happy. Prices are decent too.
