Alright, well I have some time here at work. Waiting on parts, so nothing else to do. Here is our continuous thread where we can discuss ideas about meets, dyno days and other things that go on in our new chapter. If anyone has any ideas feel free to email me. I want to try and get our meets so we can move around Tennessee, kinda alter locations so some guys don't have to drive so far for every meet....if that makes sense.
I am thinking about a dyno day in the spring. I know it is a ways off, but I want to make sure we can get a good sized group. If anyone knows any of the dynos let me know on this thread. I have never really had anything to dyno before, so that part is new to me. So any ideas, let me know. If you know anybody that is interested tell them about the site, I always mention the "free" part. I found another guy at the dealer next door and he knows a fella too. He sounded interested, but he was busy so I could not talk his ear off as I am so good at doing.
So Tennessee Chapter let the black smoke roll!!!!

Ok, one more thing. I talked with Dieseldaze and have elected Micaiahfied to be our Vice President. So lets welcome our new VP!! He has expressed a lot of interest in this position and rounding up new members. So if by any chance you can not get ahold of me, feel free to contact him. We are off to a good start!

Hey prospector how can I put the links to the Chapters on my sig?
The easy way is to just copy it from my signature and post it in yours.
I think I've got mine fixed now. The CH 31 link I had didn't work anymore; so I changed it to the current one that does.

LOL, you are right! :D
Heck, I JUST noticed the link to the form to "Join" a chapter. I've never sent one in. I just started posting and showing (sometimes) at events, and figured I was a chapter "member". Dang, I guess I'm just an intruder. :(

Ahh, don't worry bout it. We did away with the fomalities of paperwork memberships ater the 1st meet.
ProspectorTim
09-18-2006, 11:03 PM
Actually, I think there SHOULD be some paperwork.
"Newcastle" label: 6 copies, attached to full bottles - to be submitted at the first meeting that a new member attends.
Existing members to be "grandfathered" in, of course. ;)

Well what can I say Streetsmoker, the "roundtable discussion" thread of yours is a good idea......but I just could not see using the same wording....thought I had to change it somehow, but still mean the same thing. Plus it sounded better that the Chapter #34 blah, blah, blah forum [laugh] [laugh]
Thanks Roper, I think I have around 40 hours in this thing after wiring/lights....still wiring the work lights....

I strongly recomend that some paperwork be maintaned for each Local Chapter President.
If nothing else, it gives the Chapter President a roster and contact information.
More importantly, It allows each member that joins your Local Chapter a chance to (at least) review the Local Chapter bi-laws and regulations that each Chapter President (and that Local Chapter) is bound to.

bump.....I think I come here to much! Several times a day....and find not much new to look at....cause I've looked at just about everything![laugh] [laugh]
A dyno day would be nice.
There are a few dynos in nashville but I don't think any of them are load dynos.
We need to talk to Bean or Swamps (both powerstroke guys, injector builders) and see if they can get that movin dyno down here at one of there shops.
I know they are powerstroke guys but boths are super nice and probably could hold it and at one of there shops.
Bean is in woodbury. He injector man is in Murfessboro (floorit diesel I believe is the name of this shop) and Swamps in in La Vernge.
NADA has a dyno but I believe it's just a flywheel dyno.

Well boys!! I searched Lebanon and found Delk Performance and they have a website and they have a MD1750 Mustang dyno. I called but their line was busy....so I went to their website and emailed them. When I here back from them with the info, cost/dates etc, I'll let you know. Like I said I want to plan this for the spring or maybe late winter, i.e, February or something just so we can gather up more members and set a firm date so everyone can plan ahead and hopefully get a good turnout! All the guys from MSDTR #31 are welcome! Streetsmoker will probably have enough power to his truck by then to burn the dyno down!! [laugh] [laugh]

So I have not heard from the yahoo's over at the dyno joint. Need to try and call them again when I get a chance. Been extremely busy and won't ease up until January sometime, so please bare with me when you see I have not posted much. I am gonna work on getting some decals made up for our chapter, I have the template, just need to find a local shop to whip up some.
There is a tractor pull, or pull what you brung down in Campbellsville, TN next saturday(October 7) starts at noon'ish. It's south of Mt. Pleasant on highway 166S or north of Pulaski on highway 166. They said they will have signs out to show the way to the track. Just a good ol' backyard truck/tractor pull, bring a cooler and a tailgate. This is the first time for me at this one and will have my two tractor pulling buddies...my boy and youngest daughter...I am seriously raising some diesel junkies!!

There is one in Mt.Juliet on hwy 70. Can't remember the name of the place but if your coming from hwy 109 into Mt.Juliet on 70 it's on the right side of the road. If im by there i'll try to get the name of the place, but I can't promise i'll be by there anytime soon. But if any of ya'll go through that area I believe it has an AC Delco sign on the front of the building. Also don't know what kind of dyno it is either but thinking it might be a mustang. Not alot of help but maybe somebody on here lives out there.

Called over to Delk and got some info. To get the dyno we need to schedule about 6 weeks in advance to get a saturday. The dyno goes up to 1750hp and figured torque was around there to. They figure they can do 8-10 trucks in an 8 hour period, depending on how many DRW's there are. They can run the dual wheel, but have to remove your outer wheel to do so. So I don't know if that is the norm or not....anyone else know? Ok, so the dyno rent would be from 9am to 5pm and they will supply a tech to run dyno, remove wheels etc. The cost, well here goes, $1200 for the day. I guess if we had 10trucks it would be $120 each. Plus, assuming that we could get 10 trucks across the dyno. Would like to get more on there to lower the cost.
I also found one over in Smyrna, Performance Garage and am trying to get ahold of them to see what they have. I think it said they have a dynojet? Not to sure about that either. See what you can find out about Springfield
Micaiahfied. I did an web search for Nashville and dynos and only found these two.
ProspectorTim
09-27-2006, 03:26 PM
That was a Mustang Dyno down at Southern Speed in Decatur.
It is a bit of a drive, but they sure treated us right. I'd drive back there anytime I need a dyno run.
Did someone say NEWCASTLE? [coffee]
dodgeguy71
09-29-2006, 03:09 PM
BUMP Got some info on another dyno in Smyrna. Available on saturdays, can run drw trucks without removing the outer wheel so save time there. He said we had two pay options, pay $800 for 8 hours and he'll get as many done as he can....or $75 plus tax for each truck. I told him that would be better that way it won't matter how many trucks show up.
So lets start talking dates. I was thinking end of February or beginning of March when it starts to warm up a bit...maybe I'll have my smarty by then. Plus it gives time for anyone to plan ahead so we can have a good turn out. If you don't want to dyno, come on anyhow and join in on the fun. We might consider givin him a tip too, what do you guys think? Also maybe some food? I'll have to try and get some time to go check out his operation and see if there would be room for a grill and maybe if there is we could all bring different things to grill, pot luck kinda thing. I'll have to think about top dyno run for the day, 1st,2nd,3rd. Some kind of prize or something....I personally don't have a ton of money laying around so it'll probably be something simple like gift certificate or some kind of stuff. Anyhow, lets here some ideas.....by the way........Where are you guys!!!
P.S Maybe if I make hamburgers again the guys from MSDTR would come?? Streetsmoker? Dmax? Prospector and Roper? NEWCASTLE!!!

It's a beer....must be below the Tennessee line, I have not seen any around here and I'm only 30 minutes from Alabama. Got me talking about it so much I need to try one. Hmmmm, guess I might have to make them burgers again!! [laugh] [laugh]
Oh yeah, did I say smarty? Now with all the looking around I like the edge comp cause it's shift on the fly...but then I saw the quadzilla xillarator and that looks pretty sweet and is also shift on the fly.....ohhhh boy, if I could only find that box I buried in the back yard?????

I kinda have to wait until I talk to some people on monday or tuesday and see if I am gonna be "relocating" a certain $8000 toolbox. See, I'll be on call every other saturday...does not mean I'll be working, if I get called out I get paid for what I did. If I don't get called out, they pay me 4 hours just because. So I kinda want to see what happens and maybe I can forecast down the road to make sure I'm not on call the saturday of the dyno day, that would stink.
dodgeguy71
10-03-2006, 07:06 PM
Hey you guys all fall off the face of the Earth??? Still working on the dyno day, kinda been placed on the side burner. Still doing some job hunting etc. Going up to Knoxville on Friday to interview and see what happens. Sounds like an EXCELLENT Company, just hope insurance/pay are where I need them. If I land the job then I'll be able to pick a definite date and set it all up, then we can do a head count. I'll have to get over by his place and see how it is set up and see if we.....I can set my grille up somewhere and we can do burgers/brats/dogs etc.
Micaiahfied
10-03-2006, 09:59 PM
sorry, i was on a camping trip! 2wd performed excellent. i also love to grille so i think a tailgate while trucks are running through the dyno is an awsome idea. i haven't been able to get any more info on the dyno up here, i will see what i can find the next few days. gotta see if a can get a few mods to the truck or my showing on the dyno would just be pathetic!

Ordering my pyro(finally) on Monday. Found it for $124!! That's cheaper than the Vulcan lines! Wait a minute....have to call and make sure, I'm wondering if it actaully comes with the probe and lead. I saw it at the same place a few months ago for around $150 and it came with the lead/probe....have to look somemore

I just got back from almost a week of "vacation" at the Commrmorative Air Force (CAF) Airsho in Midland, TX. It's gonna take me a while to catch upon the forums.
Now that THAT is behind me, I'll probably be dropping my fuel tank to add a DrawStraw real soon. And who-knows what else.
We still on for next weekend????
dodgeguy71
10-12-2006, 07:17 PM
We are still on! Be there with smoke rings!! I need to call them yahoo's over at O'charleys and reserve some tables, I don't want us scattered all through the place, so it's official....We have 20 people coming on saturday and if there are not 20 there.....they must have had something come up! [coffee]
Good day today, got my pyro in the mail and got a phone call from my new job saying that my drug test and background check were good and the job is mine. So tomorrow I drop the bomb at the caddy store and will probably just leave in the morning to go load my tools onto the new truck and then haul my toolbox home. Seems to be the best way to do it.

20?
I hope you weren't counting me. [eyecrazy]
Y'all have fun. I just had my truck on the dyno a month or so ago. No need to do it again until I've got more stuff "fixed". If a drawstraw don't fix anything, at least it might prevent or delay it from happening again.
I am curious to see what I find when I drop the tank and look at the pickup screen.
I think a buddy of mine from MS is gonna come with me. He is in school down there for John Deere but he will be back that weekend.
He as a 96 2500 4x4 auto with a custom sleeper (kinda ugly to me but it's a CTD).
Maybe yal can get him to join the forum so I can up a lock switch in his truck.
So far we slide the factory plate forward (need to crank on the star screw a little), now he needs a shift kit (nothin big) and the lock up switch and maybe the 3k gsk spring kit.

hey shawn, how'd it go today? burn any bridges? [laugh]
dodgeguy71
10-14-2006, 01:37 PM
Prospector, that was "20"...cough, cough people so I can reserve some tables so we don't get scattered throughout the place. Like I said if all 20 don't show up, well they must have had something come up...cough, cough..
Well, no bridges burnt. It went over quite well actually. Just told them the main reason why I was leaving, getting tired of getting the shaft from the General fixin his cars with less than 10,000 miles on them. Plus it's getting way to slow, doing more standing around and not getting paid to wait on the next turd to roll through the door. Soooooo, they were cool with it, shop foreman said, "you going back to them stinking diesels huh?" and laughed. I said, "well you know me". He said to stop on by some time and see us and I said no problem, I'll stop in on those holidays when I have off and you guys are here working! He laughed and said, " _________ you!!" While laughing. So they understand why. Service Manager said it's been the same pay system since you started here. I told him yeah, but for 14 years I got paid by the hour and that was even when it was slow and I was painting lines and pushing a broom.
So I left there and moved my box over to the new job and swapped my tools from my $8000 toolbox into a $35-40,000 Ford F550. Hauled the box home yesterday afternoon and parked it in my garage, WoW that thing is big!! Checked out the Ford and it's an automatic....which will be nice with all the driving I'll be doing! It's a good looking truck....I'll have to ask them if I can tint the windows on it though....or maybe get them tinted. Just one more truck to keep clean!!
dodgeguy71
10-14-2006, 08:02 PM
Well got my pyro in today. I removed the nuts and pulled the turbo back and put cardboard over the turbo. Then drilled and blasted and cranked her over to belch out whatever may have landed in the manifold. Shot a good blast out the exhaust and hit my cardboard, popped it up and must have spun the turbo a bit, did not spin much cause I had one of those latex gloves over the inlet...to keep and debris out and it sucked my protection onto the wheel. Well it came off easily, pushed the cardboard back down and put a prybar over it to hold it down and did it one more time.
Got it all wired up and the red wire I have learned needs to be on it's own circuit for battery voltage. I turn my dash lights down and the pyro stays bright but when you get the lights dimmed all the way....it shuts the pyro off!! [laugh] Voltage must be to low to power the gauge!! Yeah, I know....[duhhh] So gonna pull a gauge out tomorrow and wire in yet another wire.

I did see a place on hwy 70 just past the Mt.Juliet Utility district on the left that had a chasis dyno, Automotive something across the street from something Ferry rd. I have it wrote down in my service truck. Also found a place near work that does power coating, gonna call sometime and ask about power coating my valve cover??

I was planin on being there but I've got to work from 5 till 5 tomorrow.
I get real busy at the end of the month (it's always like that) and I've been on 5 till 5 since the middle of this week, no big deal. My boss comes back to machine Thursday, looks like we are gonna have a strong November and December so if you can work 5 till 5 as long as you have wire.
Looks like it will be like this through the middle of December but maybe I won't have to work to many Saturdays.

Don't worry too much about it, we only had 4ppl show up at our 1st meet, and 2 of those are no longer at DTR then 2 at our 2nd. Me and Dmax the only one's who been to every meet our chapter has had. Which reminds me, it's bout time I get another meet going on our side.
With winter setting in, looks like we'll have more dinner/lunch type meetings followed by wrench session in a heated garage. Cause you can't count on the weather cooperating this time of year.

Good-looking group, especially the first-gen.
Back when, folks were talking about an early spring dyno day. Is that still in the works? I wouldn't mind coming up to spin them and see folks.
Down here in the Florida Panhandle, Suncoast Converters does a Dyno Day in early February (11th this year).

Mic, I work at CopperWeld Bimetallics.
We basically bond (weld) copper to aluminum and steel and then draw (down size) it into different sizes.
My machine is a strander.
If you ever look at ground wire comin off a power line you can see how it is twisted together, thats what I do but with copper clad steel and pure copper wire.
It's mostly used over seas as telephone wire and ground wire.

I got the pictures from our meet.......buuuutttttttt, I had the camera in super show quality mode and the file size is HUGE. So, being a computer moron as far as making pics smaller I won't be able to put them on here.
As you all may have seen, I FINALLY picked a dyno day. Yes, it is several months off, but something like this I want plenty of time to plan, get a good group together. I wonder how many trucks we can get over there in Smryna??

Hey Boz have you got your clutch in yet? I was wondering cause I have a friend with a LARGE shop that offered it's use to me over six months ago. Said if I ever had anything to big to fit in my garage that I was more than welcome to use his anytime, just to leave enough room for his combine or tractors if he needed to work on them. So if you need some help let me know or need the shop.

I don't drink.....hardly....so I can't be bought with beers. My idea is if I help work on a guys truck...his hands get dirty too!! [laugh] [laugh] I have a good friend I help out at times and I usually guide him, let him do the work. I'm just the experienced automotive idiot, kinda like the village idiot.
Mark, yeah I can do that. It's actually pretty easy, but I understand the intimidation part. I remember my first valve adjust many many moons ago(when I was a green mechanic) Just let me know ahead of time. Best time for me would be after the first of the year. Then my hours at the toy store will be cut and I can start living an almost normal life after work!!
Boz, thats alright...I was kinda wondering how we would have gotten the trans out anyhow..I don't have a trans jack, could make one out of some steel and use my mega floor jack, but just have not really needed to do that yet.

Did you guys know that there is a tractor pull in Murfreesboro on January 12th and 13th. I think it was Friday, 6:30 start, then two different ones on Saturday, one at noon and then another at 6:30. I believe it's under a roof, open on the sides maybe. I plan on going out there on Saturday....taken my kids of course. Not to sure what time though. The last one we went to we got there a little after noon and did not leave until 10:30!!! Needless to say the two kids slept good that night!!

Hey!! I'm here, finally done with the toy store gig. Was supposed to go in tonight.......oops! They cut us loose early from work and I just did not feel like doing it anymore. So, it's the end for me at the toy job, sorry Santa!
Mark, yeah, I'm game. Pulling a large tranny out like that with a real transmission jack! Wow! Luxury! Beats the heck out of doing it with a floor jack!!!!! Just let me know, I'm on call every other weekend. Not this weekend, but next weekend and so on. If I'm on call with no calls, I have no kids with me which frees me up to roam....but I may get called away with the trans laying on the ground!
I got the dyno list going now, looks like Mglass, Cotton are two confirmed places. Boz? Are you in? For sure? Mark I know you got the expecting mother thing going on so I guess if you want to run we can put you in a spot and then get an alternate or something. I'll have to talk to the guy with the dyno and see if we can have a few experienced dyno guys help him bind the trucks down and hook them up etc. Thanks for the info Cotton! Care to volunteer as one of the pit crew!!

http://www.southernmotorsports.net/
It's funny, 1 powerstroke and NO Duramax?? There is one on saturday night called powerstrokeless, makes me wonder...Is a Cummins is under the hood?
I think I will be going friday night. Looks like nine pickup trucks and a BUNCH of tractors. This show looks great. I'm not a big fan of the gas burners, although those Allison V12 airplane engines are awesome. The more diesel in the air the better and especially none of those mini mods, [yuk] IMHO

01-06-2007, 08:02 PM
Hello?? Is anyone around here?
Hey, I had an idea for a bumper sticker.....or something of that nature. Maybe I have seen it before and it just came to me today....don't really know, but how about this. " Will work for diesel performance parts" Maybe I can stand on the edge of the off ramps after work with sign in some ragged out clothes. Sign would read, " Valuable family member terminally ill, Please donate to buy parts"
Also, whats with people driving around with their dogs riding in there laps? I see them on the interstate, at intersections? Would this not be considered hazardous to our health? I know people love their dogs....I love my dog, but riding on your lap? I don't know which is worse, the lap dog or putting on makeup or reading the business section while driving?
I also found another chassis dyno. I was out in Mt. Juliet a week or so ago at the location of the new Mt. Juliet high school. I have been out there a few times before and have seen this place, but never could remember the road. If you go up 171 of I-40 straight up to highway 70. Turn right and start to leave town. You'll go past the John Deere store and a Kangaroo gas station and the place will be down past there, not to far on the left. I think it's Automotive Specialists or something like that. I know for sure it is on the corner of Benders Ferry and highway 70, on the left corner. I'm always in my work truck so can't really stop.

Woooowwww, this page has been still for 10 days! I think after our dyno meet we need to plan a picnic type thing at a state operated recreational facility where we can kick out law chairs, cold beers and chit chat. You know, when the weather is nice, before the weather where you sit still in a t-shirt and sweat....in the shade. Both our meets have/or will have been held around Nashville. Soooooooo, where to next? I know of Henry Horton State park over around Chapel Hill. Several around Nashville. What's out in Lebanon or Dickson or up around Springfield?? Like I said, I want to move the meets around so the same people don't have to drive long distances all the time. So lets here some suggestions, ideas.....basically, bring the wife/kids, lawn chairs,coolers....if we have to rent a camp site or two to make it work etc.

I honked at you scott. you saw me at the bottom of my "test hill" it's where i go to test new mods.... i mark where i can hit 60mph... the hill does a great job of loading the turbo. when i first got the 91 it couldn't hit 60 before cresting the hill, now i hit it at the 1st driveway(on the right)! probably sooner if i could keep the rears from spinning.
my wife is doing well, she was in the truck with me when you passed. She's due the 25th by her calculations and the 28th by the doctor's. i am personally hoping she can hold it off till after i dyno on sat LOL selfish i know! 60mph by the first drive huh? I'll have to try it and see how I stack up. Is that from a dead stop or rolling start? Better watch it, there's at least one cop that lives there just over the top of the hill.

03-31-2007, 09:49 AM
Wow!! Found our thread on page three!!! Mark, are you a daddy yet?? I know you said she was close on the dyno day. Those little things sure keep you busy once they arrive.
As far as the 4x4 goes I think it would be alright. Depending on what size pipe you plan on coming out of the bed. It would take some work to mate the round to the square and make it strong enough to ward off any cracking issues. The 4x4 however will not be 4x4 inside, it's gonna be minus whatever the wall thickness is, so .250" wall thickness is 3.750" inside. If you could find it and it would fit, maybe a 5"x5" then you'd have nearly 5" inside. I think what you are talking about would work great. Just would have to mate the elbow to the square and then cut the bed and slide the pipes in and line everything up. You would have to allow for enough room for the bed when it comes up. You could not put the pipes in to far is what I'm getting at I guess. Cause then bed coming up will change the angle and all that which you already know. It would be something where you would need all the basic parts and the better part of a Saturday, hole saw, bolts, welder....lots of time. Oh yeah and something to get the exhaust into the tube.
Best thing to do, what I do, is to grab a notebook and draw it out. Then go outside and measure, get ideas on what you need and make a list. You know,
(1)5'X5" square tube
(2) 90 degree elbows...4"??
(1) your inlet pipe and flexpipe?
So you get the idea. I've built a lot of stuff and find if I plan ahead a bit and draw it out.....even if it don't look great and measure then you have a real good idea and then the idea can be modified as it comes together. My cab rack was supposed to have square tubes across it when first put on paper and as I was welding away...it became what it is now.

Hey dodgeguy, you been out to Williamsport lake? I've got a friend in spring hill and he wants to go out there. Don't know too much about it. Just curious if anyone has been out there
dodgeguy71
04-26-2007, 04:05 PM
Yeah, that's where we go. Its about 20 minutes from the house. Come into Columbia on highway 31 from Spring Hill and turn right on 412/43 towards Lawrenceburg. Go maybe 5 miles and get off on highway 50 and at the bottom of the ramp turn left towards Centerville. You'll pass through Williamsport and it'll be a mile or two on the right. I think you go up a hill and start into a curve and you'll see the sign.
It costs $5 to get in, they have a store where you sign in and they sell lures, tackle, bait, drinks and such. You can also rent a john boat for $8 which is good if you don't have one. Then you can get into some of the coves to try and catch the biggin'. They have 5 lakes and 4 are real good size and one is not, but it has a lot of overhanging brush and good spots to hit. I believe they open up around 5:30am or 6. We try to get there around 6am so we can get our minnows and be down at the lake by 6:30 or so. All the times I have been out there early morning has the most action, around 9-10 it tapers off and the wait becomes longer. Gonna try some lures first thing Sunday morning and see if I can land a keeper, oh, a keeper at Williamsport is something like 20" for a bass. They have pics in the store of the one's that got brought home.
Anyhow, it's a good day out there. I've taken friends out there and rented a boat and we've stayed out there until 3-4 in the afternoon drifting around.

i'll probably be going. i talked to mark about it. we should all meet and go up there.
I'm plannin on goin.
They had a pretty good pull over in lynville the other night.
Had a good lookin 98 12v dark green and grey quad cab long bed that fogged out the whole sled. My buddy chris knew and asked what he did to it. He said, I don't know I bought like that out of Indiana but it pulls to 4k and smokes so I'm thinkin its got somethin done to it.

ok guys, i want to see if we can organize and have at least a few trucks head up to the TS performace thing together. Since it is straight up in bowling green i figured that we could meet at one to the exits on 65north. let me know what you guys think and what times you would be interested in being there for.
on a side note i don't know how many of you saw my thread "stupid move" but i am recovering from a rather large area of my shoulder/arm/back that is covered with 2nd degree burns.

Yeah I saw that. Looked like it might have tickled a little. That could've been real bad. Been lucky here at work. Came close to getting burnt a few times. My friend had a coolant hose blow up on him. Burnt the crap out of his arm.
Man it sucks. There's always something planned or cool going on then I look and it just happens to be my Sat. to work. Every 5th Sat, what are the odds? I might be out for this one. Although doesn't sled pulling start at like 6 or 7?
Micaiahfied, you plannin on goin up on friday for the dyno or just saturday for the drags and pull??
I guess we could meet on the northern side of nashville if Boz is gonna go so he ant back trackin. Exit 96 or 98 is the goodlettsville exit thats about right out of nashville might be a good place to meet. It don't matter to me I'm comin from exit 1 right over the TN line.
If we go saturday I figure nashville is bout an hour from bowlin green, meet at 7 of maybe even 6:30 would give us time to be there by 8 cause I reckon from what I remember thats when the drags start of maybe thats when the gates open.
I know the gates open for the pull at 4:30 and the pull starts at 6:30.
Anybody planin on headin up the TS event this saturday???

Im gonna try to make it. Ive got alot goin on but im gonna try to get there early. When are you planning on heading there?
I'm plannin of leavin my house staurday bout 5.30 (got some stuff to do friday) but its bout an hour and a half to get into nashville so I figured be in bowlin green around 8 or lil after.
Gates open at 8 but it doesn't say when the drags really start.

Dgraham beat me to it. Is anyone else thinking of going? It kinda came around a little sooner than I thought. I'm kinda up in the air on it. I'm thinking about skipping it and checking out Scheid's this year. I've heard it's just as good if not better.

Anybody have a hub puller i can borrow? Or any tricks to help get the hub off? Or wanna help me change a hub assembly? I bought one and would like to get it on before i head out of town next weekend. Any takers?
dodgeguy71
05-21-2007, 07:24 PM
That would be a negative from me Boz, you got's you thar one of dem fancy new trucks so I'd be of no help. Why you taken off the hub by the way?
Well I'm back for a brief visit. Trying to get a small business type thing going, like I need more to do???? Plus it's almost summertime, weekly fishing trips to the lakes, sometimes saturday's and sundays with the family, home duties, mowing that miserable hillside we call a yard. I've gotten quite a bit of my honey do list done, still have to seal the driveway.....some 250 feet or so, that's a bunch of driveway sealer!!!
I've been able to build up quite a nest egg here in the last month. I've had several things on my mind that I wanted to get done....i.e, my winch fixed, $125 to repair the motor....but....I really don't want to spend the money. Thought about the FASS, momentarily and decided against that. Thought about buying that tailight assembly($60).....nope, don't want to spend that either. But, I really want to try and get us some chapter stickers made up. I know I've said it before and hopefully I'll do it this time. But I have a goal in mind for my nest egg and everytime I reach that goal....I change it to something higher and then the tight butt comes back. Sooooooo, let me try and look around and see what it will cost to have maybe 100 decals printed up and I'll get back with you. Sorry for being a really tight President, but I'm pretty tired of working for someone else. Still like where I'm at but I guess it's my personality, gotta be doing my thing. So, my multiple George Washingtons are pretty sacred to me at this time.
Sorry, long winded again. Basically let me look into it, find out $$$$ and see.

Ive got a noise coming from the front end when i get over 50mph and no one can tell me what it is. I bought a new hub assembly since it "could" be that and i figured it would hurt to put a new one on. Ive just heard that these hubs can be next to impossible without a puller.

Just saw this in the farmers exchange and it's their 1st annual truck and tractor pull. It starts at 6pm and running hot farm, super farm, hot rods, limited modifieds, 4x4 trucks and following MTPA rules. It says to bring your lawn chairs so it looks like it'll be one of those relaxed pulls where you bring your coolers and have fun.
The date is June 9th at 6pm. It's at the Tennessee Valley Pioneer Power Association Showgrounds......for us locals also know at the place where they have the Eagleville Antique tractor show around September. To get there from Nashville you can take Nolensville rd or 31A I believe down to highway 99(left turn). Better yet, heres a link.....
http://maps.yahoo.com/broadband
If your coming from the I-65 side of Eagleville the showgrounds are on the right side, and on the left from the Eagleville side.
Yeah, I know I started a thread about this in the pulling section but wanted to get it here for the local folks. I plan on going to this one for sure.

well guys life has been crazy here! i'm back up to 3 1st gens again, this one has a sweet drivetrains but the body is a little banged up... no rust, just well used. it has an nv4500 that was purchase new and swapped in only 30k ago along with a SBC Con-ofe (same setup as my truck) on top of that the injection pump was replaced with a brand new unit about 60k ago. i am in the process of putting all new brakes on it... probably converting it to all wheel disc and then selling it to a friend. it was a fun trip i actually bought it out of spokane washington! got to drive to yellowstone, past the grand tetons, and through jackson hole wy. on the way back... even saw a moose and some bison! other than that Adam, our son, is now 11 weeks old and weighs in at a whopping 15lbs. he can't say "boost" , "turbo", or "cummins" yet but give him a little time and he'll get it. my wife said that when she's playing with him in the living room and i pull up he hears the truck and smiles! on top of that my wife decided she wants to stay home with him. I am all for this but my salary is not currently enough to live on so we are selling our house and moving in with her 86 year old grandmother for a time.i think it will be cool for Adam to get to know his great grandmother and i know she will love having him around. the worst part is giving up my 24x24 detached garage, though she has a 2 car garage it's not gonna be the same. i think there may be a pull coming up here in springfield, if so i'll get some more info maybe some of us can meet up for a bit! i'd love to go tonight but we already have plans, i was supposed to be at a 1st gen meet up in KY today but life is just too crazy, can't wait for it to slow up a bit... i'm thinking that will happen hopefully by the fall, lol.

Slow up by the fall???? Well Mark I'm here to tell ya, you got about 18 years before it slows up....that is if you don't have anymore little Marks!! [laugh] [laugh] As they get older it gets more busy. They start cheerleading, spending nights at friends houses, friends spend the night, go here go there, fundraising for this club....on and on and on........You get used to it though and then one day they'll be out of college, getting on with their lives and we'll be old crusty men wondering what we're gonna do with ourselves all day and of course the age old question.....where did the time go???
I've got a daughter who will be 10 in September and her personality is really starting to show, it's fun to watch. But then I wonder, "Wow, she's almost 10!!!" Seems like life flies by after having kids, maybe it's because now you have something to gauge time by.....I don't know.

Where did the time go - yup, you'll wonder that.
What will you do with yourself all day - you'll be surprised when that time comes. The church gets a lot of my time on fixit chores, volunteering at the local state park gets a bunch more, the Homeowners Association gets some more. Travel to see the kids gets a bunch. My wife & I do more together. The truck & trailer demand their share.
I'm thinking of going back to work so I can quit at 5:00. [laugh]

We had one down here ay hazelgreen down across the line but I didn't make it. Me and buddy headed over to bout 30 miles south of memphis in MS to where he went to school (John Deere tech school) to get his tractor with his new truck. He got him a 03 like mine but red 6 speed.

06-30-2007, 06:20 AM
Well, kinda crazy around here. People coming to visit, me going out of town in a few weeks, and the people calling with their cars/trucks that need to be fixed!! Got a boy who called and said his car just quit, battery was bad, alternator bad. Installed the parts and when to crank and just could hear the starter clunk against the flywheel. Saw he had an oily looking oil pan and checked the oil level.....nothing on the stick. Cleaned it off and put it back in and removed.......there was black powdery stuff on it!!!!!
Tried to talk him out of fixin' it, he paid $2800 for it and he's getting ready to spend around $2200 to fix it. It's a 97 cavalier. He said he heard a tickin' noise just before it died?
As far as the fab goes all I have to do is get my mig welder. I'm kinda torn between a used gooseneck or a mig welder. I just need more projects to help finance said welder.......So any of you guys out there in middle-TN needing some fab work done, i.e cab racks, etc for a donation towards the shawn's mig welder fund let me know. I really want to get a plasma cutter so I can start working on my own bumpers.......yeah, I love that stuff!!
I'm really wantin a a good mig welder too.
Been lookin even the little Millers are like 650 I think minus the tank. I think TSC has some of the small hobarts for 525 is what I think they are so I believe thats what I'm leanin towards.
Would come in handy when I start buildin a pull lawn mower
dodgeguy71
07-03-2007, 07:58 PM
I've thought about the hobarts from tsc as well. I want to get one though that is a 220v. I've got my stick welder for any large stuff, but I also want to be able to weld larger with the mig. My dream welder is a miller with mig/tig/stick and whatever else they can throw on it, maybe a plasma all in one machine!!! Yeah, that would be nice.
KVD, you gonna make a pullin lawn mower? I have not been to see any of those but have seen the guys with the little racing lawnmowers over here in Mt.Pleasant. I started to build one, but as with anything to make it "competition legal" it was gonna cost a fortune. So I took an old 125 Honda wheeler and cut off the front and rear axles, fabricated them onto a lawnmower chasis and lowered the mower, it's about 3-4 inches of the ground, maybe a bit more. I have a transmission for it, just have to get a gear made to go on the tranny, find tires. I have a 18hp v-twin to put in for the powerplant. Not gonna hop it up or anything, just leave it stock, then run up and down the driveway for fun and maybe take it over to Eagleville for the tractor show in September......some year!! I actually found a chain for it the other day at work, it was an old chain off a piece of something and it's the perfect size for my mower/racer!!
dodgeguy71
07-07-2007, 05:20 AM
So you guys want to plan something for the end of summer, maybe end of August or September? I know in the first weekend or second of September is the tractor show in eagleville and I hope to be there. Any ideas on a meet? I was thinking about a wrenching session and grille out, although I don't have anything to wrench on? I might be getting some nozzles soon though. If not a wrench session something else? What location? I know I figured we would move it around to help out so let's here some ideas. Heck, I'm even up for just going to a public park and sitting around grilling and chatting.
Sounds good to me. I'm down for just chillin. Buddy of mine that came up there with me to the dyno day (deereguy07) is slowy buildin a pull truck out of his 96 and we really can't figure out how gut the afc of adjust the rack/govern travel. We have made a 100 plate (soon to be 0) and slide in full forward and got the valvebody in so now it's bout time to come up with some cash to really start buildin it.
Dodgeguy, yeah I been thinkin bout buildin a pull lawn mower based off a John Deere 110. I'm not sure how long the rear end will last cause I'm really wantin to run an twin cylinder 500cc Kawasaki ninja motor on it.

07-08-2007, 08:32 AM
Looks like it's just me and you KVD!!!
I've always wanted to build a 4 wheel drive pullin garden tractor, just for the fun of it. I was actually thinking about usind a Geo metro engine and trans, but my mind got side tracked when I started to think about the front and rear differentials and what, how to make it happen. Another one of those things I'd like to do but I always seem to have less money than time. Need a good couple of numbers on the lottery tickets. [laugh] [laugh] [laugh]
What's new around here, well installed my new Diablo power puck and I like it. Trying to get all the speed/racing out of my system this week so I can make the long journey to upstate NY to pick up my daughter and see what kind of fuel mileage gains I can get. Other than that same ol' hum drum.
Is anybody out there??

KVD i've got a 937cc motor out of a suzuki rf900 that i'd sell pretty cheap, heck i'd sell the whole bike, he was in well, a van fire so you'd have to get creative with some wirings but i've personally owned one of these in great running condition and lets just say when i gunned it in 1st it could lift the bike and my 235lb frame up without a ton of effort!
i say the meet should be north nashville :) depends where we are at with the sale of our house but i could definately find somewhere for us to hang out, and would be glad to do some grilling as long as my grill doesn't make any interstate travel!
Yeah shoot me a price on that motor, the bigger the better.
I wouldn't think the wirin would be to hard so really all I need is a way to start it.

Anybody plannin on goin to chapel hill this next weekend????
Details?
darncharacterlimit [duhhh]
Its a big pull over at the high school every year, and it's a big pull. Mid South pullers and another group (can't remember who it is for sure, I'm sure it's Ken Ten but it may be) over lap in there season so both of them are there at the same time. Some really big names are there, but I've seen any diesel trucks there but it's usually pretty good if you get there early enough to get a good seat.
I'm thinkin about goin, not sure if I'll make it. Girlfreind been on a trip all last week so I'm sure she will want to do somethin this weekend other than go to a pull.
dodgeguy71
07-21-2007, 11:54 PM
I wanted to go to the pull this weekend, but it just did not happen. Had a couple of cars I had to get fixed. All the times I have been sick lately, family visits, out of town I have not got things done as I should have. One more car to fix tomorrow and then it's back to slow time at my shop.
There is a pull in Tanner, Alabama next weekend, I think at the high school. Tanner is near Athens. Im gonna map it out and see how far it is from my house, I would like to go. We have not been to any pulls this year, last year we made 6 or 7 of them. My wife works on saturdays so its hard to drag three kids in a regular cab truck any distance, or the supplies needed to support 3 kids for 5 or 6 hours at a tractor pull!! I prefer the small town, bring the tractor off the farm pulls when it comes to toting the kids around.
Yeah I'm goin to Tanner Friday night, there pullin semis. Never seen it before in person so I think it wil be pretty cool.
As far as drive time, um I'm bout 2 miles for the state line of alabama and to go to tanner it's usually bout 35 minutes maybe 45 if athens is backed up some cause tanner is right out of athens and right before you get into dectaur, there's always a big sign and you can see the smoke and lights form the road.
dodgeguy71
07-22-2007, 06:33 PM
Hey KVD I think they are pullin the semis saturday night, at least that is what I saw on the schedule. I'll have to look again and see, maybe I'm wrong.....would not be the first time!! [laugh][laugh] I'll probably come into Tanner from the west since I am west of there. Friend of mine says that's how he gets to Decatur.

I won't make it friday night, work and all. Guess we'll head down saturday if I can get caught up on all my projects, a bunch of OPS around the house to fix still.
So where you guys want to do our end of summer meet? I know Mark is itchin' to have it up his way!! http://www.freesmileys.org/emo/happy086.gif (http://www.freesmileys.org) That's fine by me though, it's not real far away. So what day is better? Ya'll might as well bring wifey and kids if you want. I'll have my kids if we do this on a saturday.
Mark, hey Mr. Vp, since, you know, your up that way [whistle]Think you might be able to find a park? With grilles/pavillion or something that we can use for the day or something? I know of only one place over near hendersonville, you can see it off of Vietnam Vets parkway, like exit 6 maybe?? I won't be up that way that I know of to get phone #'s or find out info on using said pavillions/grilles and such. So who wants to nominate Mark for the job say "aye"!!!
AYE!!! I can set a date or we can think about a date.....maybe I'll set a date if I wait for you guys it'll be our before our other leg gets in the grave meet!!!! [laugh][laugh][laugh]
Um maybe the 1st week of September?
Just kinda throwin that out there.
If deereguy didn't say nothin, and o well if he did, there's gonna be a pretty good pull down in lynnville the 25th of august. I thik there was 7 or 8 diesel trucks at the earlier one, I can't remember how many farm stock trucks, quite a few, but if everything goes right he (deereguy/chris) is gonna pull his 12v.

I'm a part time youth pastor so sunday mornings are out for me, but could probably make a sunday afternoon work. again, just let me know the dates you are thinking and i will set up the place. how would everyone feel about bringing $10 and i'll provide burgers/soda/chips or something like that? i would just need and accurate number so i know how much food to buy. i love to grill so i am open to cooking steak or chicken as well, shawn can tell you whether i am any good with steaks!

dodgeguy, Hillsboro is southeast of Manchester probly 10 miles or so. can't tell you much more only been there about 3 times over a year ago. They're having a diesel class friday night for sure but I'm not 100% positive about saturday night. I'll be there both nights more than likely.

Alright, the date for our next meet, or our end of summer meet. How does September 8th or 9th work out for everyone? I'm not on call that weekend. If we do saturday the 8th I'll have my three kids with me so if ya got kids bring em', wife etc. we can make a family thing out of it.....if your wives/girlfriends are up to it. Mark, I'm good with the $10 thing.......I better give ya $20 or something....my boy eats like a horse!!!
I feel a saturday is better though. Don't know about you guys but I like being close to home on Sundays.....kinda come off the weekend high, prepare myself for having to go back to that nasty word place!!!
Alright sounds good to me, and I'm in for the 10 dollar thing. Got any ideas where its gonna be??
I"m gonna try and make it to hillsboro friday night but the gf don't like the pulls (ask deereguy he was with us at tanner friday night) so I'll have to see what she has planned.

My wife ain't a big fan of the pulls either. She gets bored of sitting there watching it. That's kinda how I feel about the food network when she is watching tv!!!! I think next spring I'll start a thread on the "other" section where us Tn boys/gals can post tractor pulls as we hear about them. I missed a few cause I did'nt know about them. Now that the county fair thing is kicking off there are gonna be pulls all over the place.

Well finished up my last car tonight. Been busy like mad the last month with cars to repair. I did just shy of $4000 in business with those cars. Unfortunately of that $4000 only around $1300 of that was labor. Minus, my tool expense, etc.etc. I figure if I could triple that, say $12,000 per month, Id be staying at home more!! But, car repair is unstable unless you have a lot of customers.
So where are ya'll at?? The heat make ya'll run and hide somewhere? You guys just want to see if I'll make another screen name so me and me can have a conversation over here!! [laugh][laugh]

Next weekend, August 25th, Lynnville, Tn truck/tractor pull starts at 5pm, I think it's $10 at the gate, $15 to hook to sled. Good laid back pull. Take I65 south, should be an exit for Lynnville. I think it's Ronnie Dunavent ParK, it's across the street from the Co-Op, just call the Lynnville Co-Op, I did!!! [laugh][laugh]

Anybody know about any pulls around the mid-state? I pulled at Springfield earlier in the summer, got "hooked", and I am looking for more. The only problem is that the local pulls are hard to find out about. Is there anywhere to see a calendar of pulls? Thanks!
dodgeguy71
08-18-2007, 09:34 AM
JS, don't know of any calender, I wish there was so I could get to all the pulls I can handle in the summer time. I've been thinking if I could find out what the pullers know, where do they get the info from?? That is the key.

Ok, I just started a new thread over in the tractor pulling/competition section
http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/dev/showthread.php?t=165290
basically if you know of a tractor pull big or small, post it here. Basically a central road map for pulls around Tennessee. I'm tired of hearing about pulls after they have already happened. I have not even been to one this year, last year 6.

08-18-2007, 10:35 AM
Amen! I heard about 3 within 30 min of me that I could have pulled in right after they happened.

If you check on the Mid-Tenn Pullers website, under the message board, a lot of these local pulls are posted on there. If you didnt know, the MTPA has diesel truck class now as a trial basis. they have the rules and safety equip. required posted on the home page. The safety stuff is pretty minor, a shield under the harmonic balancer, and a kill switch is the worst of it! The class they started is really taking off, something like 15 trucks pulled at the last one at Mooretown. The more guys that pull in the class, and the more likely they will keep it next year!! The next one with diesel trucks is in Sparta on Sept. 1st. Sometimes the promoter will have the run what ya brung class after the sactioned pull, but you never know unless your there??

Go to www.midtnpullers.com and look for the message board. THere is a thread started for the Sparta pull. A guy named Joey Grandey is the man to talk to. He will give you the info you need. Just post a question or email him, as they are pretty quick to respond!

What bout HappyGA, I ant seen him on here in a while??
He moved back to Georgia. Look in his gallery and you'll see a good reason to give him a little encouragement. His father has a Ram and had an accident in it. Dad has broken ribs and some other injuries. The truck was rolled and totalled. He's got a thread started about it and also posting in the Chapter 31 thread. Rick
Ok I didn't know.
Ok the pull at Lynnville starts at 5 but the antique classes, those will probably run for about 2 hours since there are a few weight classes.
I'll be there, deereguy will be there pullin (got the injectors in his truck last night, traction bars go on tonight).

There's a pull in Ashland City tomorrow night, Friday. Springfield is Thursday night the 30th. Dickson I think is Thursday September 6th. If I hear of more I'll let you know.

Well I pulled for the first time Saturday night after the rain. I pulled 240.0 in the stock class. Then pulled the rain out classed today (sunday). Pro Street I pulled 299.58. I'm hooked for good now. The lynnville pull is by far one of the best in my opinion.

Do any of you guys know where to get the harmonic balancer shield and kill switch, as per MTPA rules? I am having a hard time finding any info on them. And is the 26" hitch height at the bottom, top, or middle of the hitch? Thanks!!

You could contact Meacham over at Cedar City Diesel in Lebanon, and he will be able to fix you up or point you in the right direction anyway. There are alot of guys from Lebanon that pull, so I am sure that he has done a few trucks already!!

I just called and talked to Chris Newsom (spelling?). He said the balancer sheild is no big deal. Just have something under the balancer to keep it from hitting the ground if it blows. He said he did not know of any way to hook up a kill switch on a 2nd gen 24 valve. Any ideas on the kill switch?

Seems like you should have some sort of fuel shut off on the Injection pump, key is to find out how the ignition switch shuts it off and wire in somehow a switch that would kill the power but still allow you to start with ignition. Just thinking off the top of my head.
What year is it exactly? I have a book for 2002 and it has all the schematics in it. If I have time between job, business's and ebay, not to mention family I'll look and see what I can find. I like electrical......so much fun!!!
JSPulliam21
08-28-2007, 09:42 PM
My truck is a 98.5 with the mods in my sig. Would shutting off the fuel feed to the vp damage it? I do not plan on breaking free from the sled, but you never know. I would hate to ruin the pump if for some reason I did need the switch.

I talked with Ryan Bean of Bean's Diesel Performance who has a CR Cummins in a 2002 Ford F-350 and and he said that he wired his kill switch up to the ECM Fuse?? Dont really know how he did it, but I guess you send a hot wire to the ECM Fuse and if the switch activates it, it would blow the ecm fuse. But you might call Bean, he might be able to shed some more light. He is in Woodbury, TN. Oh by the way, that CR Ford he has is a bad dude, over
600 hp and it will drag that sled!!!
dodgeguy71
08-29-2007, 08:23 PM
Maybe he put it inline with the fuse to cut power to the fuse? Basically you want to do what the key does, but with your kill switch. I'll look tomorrow if I can, have gotten busy with cars to fix again, throw in the fact that I started a biz.........it's hard to get sleep anymore. I have heard it's over rated though!
In March for our dyno day....I'll have a couple vendors there and I know of one that will have some stuff for our 1st place smoker!!

08-29-2007, 10:26 PM
All right, I can understand switching a vital fuse. Now, I just need a switch to mount on the back of the truck. You must be able to attach a cable from the sled to it, and in the event of separation, the cable will pull the switch to break the circuit. Any ideas of where to find such a switch?
