Titan vs HD Ram

After all the hub-bub surrounding the new Nissan Titan, I though I'd at least go drive one just to see. Wow, what a nice truck. It's like driving a real hot rod. What a drivetrain! And a real 5 speed AT! If I was looking for a 1/2 ton, it would be a tough choice between the Titan and a 1500 Hemi Ram. The Titan really didn't stack up against my CTD so well.

There were a couple things I didn't like about the Titan, the interior was nice, but seemed way too plasticy and mini vanish. More over, the steering was WAY to heavy for me. I don't think I could get use to that. It felt like 80% of the trucks weight was sitting over the front wheels (too much understeer through the corners as well). Not nearly as well balanced feeling as either 1500 or 2500 RAM. The x-cab back seat was a too small as well.

The fit and finish was way above GM and better than Ford. It was right up there with the new Rams, maybe a bit better, but not by much. Again, I didn't like the interior materials. CHEAP! DC has the edge over all mfgs in materials, IMO.

Overall, it was FAST, quite, solid, and impressive (except for the heavy understeer). It seemed a bit snapper around town than my beloved CTD, but couldn't hold a candle to her on the highway.

All in all, it is a very competitive 1/2 ton with a couple short commings. It, IMO, was a ways off the mark from dethroning the HD CTD Ram. There's simply no other truck like like the HD CTD Ram...period. Well, except for the AT, but I can live with that for now...hey DC, could we get a real 5 speed W/ a real Tow/Haul mode???

A buddy of mine bought a Nissan Titan CC about a month ago. Nice truck but thirsty. First road trip last week he averaged about 13.5mpg highway running the speed limit and empty.
Think I'll keep my Cummins....

When Nissan or Toyota come out with a diesel dually that's rated to pull a 16,000 lb GVWR 5th wheel, then we'll talk! Until then, they don't have a product that I need.

I keep hearing that Toyota is comming out with a 3/4 ton diesel by 2007. If Toyota does what Nissan did w/ the Titan and go all over the country asking truck owners what they would like to see in a new truck then it might be worthy. This was a great idea and I think the Titan has incorporated many of thoses ideas.

As much as I love Toyota, I hate their new designs. It seems that they are really arrogant and they think they know what is best. If they don't change their line of thinking then the new 3/4 will be too small, ugly, and way under powered, but..It will be high quality. I can vison this new truck looking like a Tundra with a 4" body lift . I bet Nissan could make one hell of a diesel HD if they ever choose to.

I own both a 04 Titan and a 04.5 3500 CTD DRW.

First, the Titan can not be compared to a 3/4 Diesel...apples and oranges.

The Titan fit an finish is top notch. The interior is comfortable and well laid out. Interior room is second to no one....lots of space and storage. My only complaint is the Fosgate stereo....sucks!

I like the rail system in the bed as well as the sliding partition and sliding extend-a-bed. They also come with the spray in bed liner from the factory. The little storage compartment behind the drivers side wheel is great for jumper cables and is sealed.

The Titan is quick and always seems to be in the right gear. Brakes are good and I feel the steering reponse isn't to bad for a truck. Milage is around 15.5 ~ combo and close to 19 on the highway. Exhaust tone is nice for being factory.

The engine is an all aluminum with DOHC, 4 valves per cylinder and variable valve timing and 6-bolt mains with steel crank. This engine screams supercharge me....

Pulling is no problem. I pulled 7000 lbs from DFW to Noble OK and I was able to stay in 5th on cruise 98 % of the time. For giggles on the way back I jumped on it going up a steep hill and accelerated to 90 before I let out...not to bad for a 1/2 ton truck pulling a descent load.

Overall I am very satisfied with my Titan. For a first model year there have been suprisingly no problems yet...keeping my fingers crossed.

A buddy of mine also has one. I thought the interior was well thought out. The front pas seat folds all the way forward, and if I recall it has a power port and spot to put your laptop computer.

I was also really impressed with the ancor points, that can be placed anywhere on tracks below the top rail and in the bottom of the bed. Works great for him, as he races motorcycles.

I think it's clear that the metric truck makers want a piece of the heavy duty pickup market, and hopefully Dodge will respond, and it will be good for everyone.

I would sure like to have the option of AC seats, power rear window, and other options on my next Dodge...

I swear the rear end diff housing appears to be a Dana 44. Just like my wife's Isuzu Rodeo!
