It must be more noticeable on the 2500 series, which would make sence. One tire chirps, not enough friction to over come LS clutch's. While the two tires does, and cluthes release.

Re:tires chirp when turning slow

I would change the rear diff fluid and be sure to add the limited slip modifier to the oil. If it wasn't added the last time it was changed, it will be hard on the LSD. my $.02

Re:tires chirp when turning slow

Most reccommend to purchase the modifier from Dodge. I have seen it at stores like Autozone. What it does is make things "more slippery" (like the clutches in the diff) so it eliminates the "to much grip problem".

I'm not so sure that you are having a problem, but since it concerns you, the first thing I would do is change out the fluid. I personally like a synthetic in the rear and use Mobil 1, however if you tow heavy, according to my owners manual for 1997 it states you can purchase a 90w-140 synthetic from Dodge (don't quote me on the exact winter weight, but I am sure about the 140).

The reason I like synthetic is that the polymers are more resistant to shear then conventional oil, and in your diff there is lots of shearing going on with the gears. The diff will run cooler, and the fluid will hold up longer (diff fluid has a tendency to be ignored). The bearings like it also.

The other reason I like it is that in my case, on two separate vehicles, I did not need the modifier. This is dealt with on an individual basis.

If you do decide to use the modifier, go slow and add small amounts at a time. Do figure eights in a parking lot, and add a little at a time untill you get the right feel and no more popping or chatter. To much modifier and you now have an open diff, so go sparingly with it. Good Luck, Kevin

Re:tires chirp when turning slow

I am running heavy weight royal purple. Bottle says no additive needed. Still chirped. Even though this is normal, I later put in some good additive. Still act's the same. I like it that way because of moore traction & better burnouts when playing. ;D But there is nothing wrong with your truck. Go ahead and change the oil if not done recently. Don't forget the front if you have that.
