Tire Wear ?

I noticed today while travlin that my steer tires on the outside edges have a step warn into them on the outside edges this truck is a 4x4 i just bought it actually the week before last with 18,000 miles on it it now has 25,000 so I travel a bit. got this one becouse my 2000 wasnt holding up to the work. But am wondering now if i didnt get problems ??

My bet would be ball joints, jack the truck up on that side of the axle and have someone pry up and down and side to side on the tire with a BIG bar. Look at the ball joints for play, when I worked at tires plus this was usually the culprit for solid axle trucks with a chop in the tire.
