Tire questions
Well, time to buy some new tires, and was thinking of going from the 265's to a 285 tire. Now the question I have is do the 285's come in an E rating? I was told that to have the E rating, I cannot get the 285's. Now is this true, or did was thia dealer just blowing smoke?

You can find this info on the internet!?!
I do not know of any tire companies making a 285 E ply tire.

I don't think there is much selection... but BF Goodrich makes their 285/75/16 T/A KOs in an E rating... Merchant's Tire told me they can get them. Haven't ordered any yet, still waiting for the current set of load range D's to wear out.
Here's a link that supports their existance:

The door placard says "E" Load, but high LOAD INDEX/CAPACITY "D" Range tires will work just fine.
Be sure to match up the Load Index with your GVWR and tow ratings for your particular truck.
Here's a Load CAPACITY chart for you.

I'm buy Load Range D Revos tomorrow in a 285/75-16s. They have a Load CAPACITY of 122. 122 is rated at 3307lbs PER TIRE.
My trucks front axle is rated at 4600lbs and the rear is 6000. My new tires will have a Capacity of 6607lbs PER Axle.
FYI, Load Range D ends at 122 and Load Range E Range starts at 123.
Also, Load Range D tires are 8 PLY whereas Load Range E tires are 10 PLY.
