Tire cupping?
I have ONE tire, the front passenger side tire cupping pretty bad on the outside edge. I crawled under and took a look. The Balljoints still appear to be in good shape, and tight, with no slop. I went ahead and ordered a set of front and rear Bilstein 5100's from Geno's, since I've still got the factory shocks on the truck, and figured I really need to get them replaced. I am going to have the tires rotated when I have the shocks put on, to hope that cures the problem. Am I heading in the right direction, or is there something I'm missing? What is worth checking?

I had a little over 100k on mine when both fronts started cupping real bad. Went to the dealer for an oil change and asked them to check it out. Guy comes back to me and says "gonna cost you about a grand to fix it...tie rods and ends are shot!!!" I drove away from there and went got a $25 alignment and it lasted well over another 100k!!!!! Problem has arisen again at almost 300k but now the ball joints are shot and the factory steering linkages finally started to take a poop on me. Doing all of it later next week when the rest of my parts arrive.

Yeah.. My truck has 71k miles on it.. I think after I get the shocks put on it, I may pony up for the lifetime alignment at Firestone... Just to be safe.. and get her done.

Just finished my front end rebuild. Ball joints were completely trashed. Axle joints seemed ok but replaced them anyways while I was that far into it. Installed new steering setup. Had it aligned and rotated my tires. Time will tell but if I were a betting man I'd say my tire wear issues are DONE for a while.
I'd first go with the alignment and see what happens. Then I'd look into ball joints.
