I've got a 2000 - 3500 dually that I bought with a injection pump thats been replaced. I really don't think it's got the giddyup and go that it should have. My question is, is there anyway to check timing ?

the timing is controlled by the ECM.
other than that maybe the key on the vp44 shaft is wrong

Thanks for the reply, what are the chances of the ECM going south? Anything else I should look for?

I just got done installing a VP twice. 1st was either bad out of the box or taken out by bad fuel. Both installs went easy as pie.

The key comes from the rebuilder with numbers that match the pump. MWFI sends their key installed correctly with the arrow pointing towards the pump. You have to be not paying attention to screw it up. You could pull the front cover to make sure everything is aligned correctly but I'd look elsewhere.
