time to upgrāde

Alright guys I have that itch again. Time to upgrade and I want a LOADED mega cab with a 6 spd MANUAL. My question to you guys is do any of you regret getting a mega cab or a third gen for that matter. Should I try to get a 5.9 or get a new 6.7 also do any of you know the best place to list a 97 12 valve 4x4 to get the most money for it. Its in good shape with no wrecks and a straight body. Thanks in advance. Jordan

You can probably find a one owner vehicle somewhere for a steal right now with the price of fuel and tight economy. Don't know anything about the 6.7s except that there's not much available for them (performance wise) and they fuel economy is supposed to be lacking (emissions). For some reason I'm always tempted to sell my truck (happens every two years), and I usually do - but I like this one so much that I'm keeping it for a while.

That sounds about like me once I get a mega I will keep it for a long time. The longest I have had a truck so far is a year and a half

You must be the only guy in the Phoenix area with a sled!........since I moved.
I used to get all kinds of questions about the sleds, like "What kinda jet skis are those in your garage?" Ha Ha Ha anyway....

I've got no complaints with my 5.9 Mega, 6speed. Mileage was about 17.5 mpg empty driving when I bought it with 10k miles. Up to almost 19mpg now with 17k mi. Just sold my '02 DMax Crew Cab last month with almost 100k mi, and while I think it was an awesome truck too, no problems, fast as he!!, it was barely getting the same mileage as my Mega is now with hopefully better to come as it breaks in.
I live in the country now. Don't think me or my wife would have liked the 6sp in Phoenix rush hr traffic. Other wise it's great. Shifts easy for a big truck.
Phoenix dlrs probably have some fire sales on new trucks, like most dlrs right now, although fuel prices are going down, so I don't see them getting any cheaper. Or check out autotrader.com. Last I looked there was literally 100's of Megas for sale around Phx.
Best place to sell a rust free 12V would be up north somewhere I'd think. Most of them are starting to rot out in the snowbelt aka "rustbelt."
Good luck!

There is a small group of us that spend quite a bit of time in utah during the winter. I have to balance sledding and dune trips down here since dune trips are part of my "job"

alright another question, how reliable are the autos?? i dont want to ever replace another auto tranny again. but they seem like they are doin pretty good. i will do at least a juice w att and DPF/egr delete. i know about the clutches in the manuals . which is a better tranny all around.

Depends on what you use your truck for - commuting, weekend driving, heavy towing/hauling, etc. You can add more power to the stock manual "safely" than you can an auto. Even with a JA I'd be careful about turning it up much past 2 or 3 or towing with the box on without upgrading the transmission. You won't have to replace the transmission if you just get it built right the first time which is what I'm doing

The problem is I usually don't have an extra $7000 laying around to build an auto. But I can come up with $1000 for a clutch and be done with it

You don't need 7000 to get tranny upgrade. If you're not looking to go crazy with HP increases you can get nearly a full built tranny for 3500-4000 (good TC, VB upgrade, bands, billet flex plate, billet input shaft, deeper pan, etc) - and that's if you're NOT doing to the work yourself. I haven't priced good clutches for a few years, but it might be hard to get a high quality clutch for 1,000?

If you use your truck for kids and family stuff i would get a mega cab, but if you use your truck for work then get a quad cab with a long bed. My only regret is not getting a long bed for my truck. I like the quad cab
