Time to sell, and buy another.

I am going to sell my truck i have now because i thought i would like having a automatic transmission, and i couldnt have made any worse of a decision. I am in the market for a Single Cab Long bed Dodge 6 Speed, 5.9L.
Please dont tell me to just buy a Goerend or some type of built transmission like that because I would rather take the money from that and just put it towards a 6 speed. I feel uncomfortable pulling with a auto.
I was just wonderin what year yall think I should look for, and why?

Thanks!

If I were in the market for a new truck I would buy an 03- early 04 (no cat) Quad Cab, Long Bed, 4X4, Manual Tranny, Manual T-case. I would buy this truck so that my wife and I would have a comfortable truck to take trips in, and my 12 valve could be my bomber!!! I dont think I really need the MegaCab(even though theyre pretty) but I do NEED a long bed, and I do NEED a MANUAL TRANNY!!! I wish it was that easy, and I would just do a conversion on my 04.5. Oh well, live and learn.

Reg cab fan.

I've got just what your looking for,but I'm keeping this thing forever. I too had an auto in my '99. I spent $4500 on a DTT upgrade which worked killer, but it's nice making the decision when to shift. The added simplicity of a manual on these already complex trucks makes sense to me also. I special ordered mine from Dave Smith Motors. Good luck.

People can be pretty passionate about manuals and autos and in my case I currently have an auto and have been happy with it for hauling horses and giving them a smooth ride (My girlfriend drives them and isn't great on a manual.) But I too would have preferred a manual on the truck, but it hasn't given me any problems.

But you didn't mention why yours was such a poor decision for you? Did it break or do you just want a manual? Also, why not get at least an extended cab too. I've had trucks all my life and the space in the back (the more the better) is a Godsend.

because they dont make extended cab anymore. only quad cab. And i already have quad cab long bed. I will be on a campus where parking is tight driving my mom's yukon, so parking my truck will suck next semester.

It was a poor decision because i have already gone through two transmissions in probably 8 months. I know its becuase im pushing too much power through a stock transmission, but i cant bring myself to spend almost 5000 dollars on a billet transmission. I would rather buy a six speed and buy a southbend or valair clutch and be able to push the power i have to it.
And pulling my trailers with auto just sucks. I feel uncomfortable not being able to select what gear i want. I learned to drive in a 4 speed F-250 and got used to pulling my landscaping trailers with it, and then switched to auto, and I feet like i have to punish my truck to get it to downshift on hills. (i have a heavy foot)

As far as what years to look for I love my 03. When I was in the market I looked hi and low for a single cab and didnt find one so if you can find one at all for the right money you might jump on it. You can strip your truck and put everything on the new truck. Good luck.

305/555 with a six speed is the ish for sure. I miss the heck out of mine!

GREAT fuel mileage, even with my lift and 35" tires. 4mpg better than my '07 auto. And it made KILLER power with all bolt-ons. 555/960 uncorrected with a stock CP3 and sticks. Not bad...

You don't need a Full blown auto for confident towing. My buddy just put in a single disc HD converter, Transgo SK and the Suncoast HD clutch kit and his tranny is very nice at 2300.00. If you tow with a real auto you will forget about 6 spds and use what you got. What kind of rebuild did you get the 1st time?

If you could find one, get an 07 5.9 with a G56. Thats what I got, and its gonna be a grail truck imo. Last year of the 5.9, the G56 is awesome. Good luck finding one though
