Time for a oil change!

Im at 46k. Im going to change front/rear diff and transfer case for the first time. Dont want to pay the dealership to do it, Because they overcharge and usually do crappy work! What brand of oil do you recommend and what weight? also how much oil do you think i need?

Thanks

Did mine several months ago, and used synthetic. I think it was 70/90, and can't remember how much it took. Old age??

The fluid fill capacities will take close to 4 quarts (8.8pints) in the 11.50 AA rear differential and approximately 3 quarts in the front differential. The front and rear diff gaskets are reusable.

I've recently replaced my diffs with Royal Purple 75W/90 synthetic in both the front and rear. The fluid of your choice must meet or exceed GL-5 specification. Valvoline Synpower and Mobil 1 are other brands that you may consider as well.

The transfer case... both the NV271 and the NV273 takes approximately 2 quarts of ATF+4 transmission fluid. I use Valvoline ATF+4 because it is readily available. I also change out my power steering fluid annually with Valvoline ATF+4.

+1 Valvoline 75-90 Syn here for the diffs and Valvoline ATF+4 for the tc. The brand is not that important, just make sure it is synthetic for the diffs. Take it to the dealer if you love to throw your money away. Any garage can do this easy procedure.

Dealerships do suck.Mine did the TSB 1-2 shuttle shift couple months ago.Did an oil change today, decided to check the tranny fluid, was barely on the dipstick,I added 2 quarts to bring it up to safe zone. Thanks to a very qualified and overpriced dealer mechanic.

gerr

Well went down to buy the oil.. what a goat rope. could only find 3 bottles at auto zone of Royal purple. Well i found more at napa but they wanted 2.50 more a bottle then auto zone did. and would not price match. And that stuff pisses me off so i went with out it. So then i went to another local mech. shop and ended up buying Redline oil. Guy their said they are pretty close to the same. So i guess we will see. so i guess ill put the 3 quarts of royal in the front diff and 4 quarts of Redline in the rear diff and 2 quarts of valvoline atf4 in transfer case. This is my first time ever changing oil so we will see how it goes. Thanks for the help guys!

I don't think I've ever had the same fluid in both diffs at the same time. I use Royal Purple,Mobil 1 and if I have to,Amsoil.

Theres never enough of any of them at the parts store to put the same thing in both diffs.

Now.....if I was looking for 1001 different trinkets for a riceburner, the shelves are stocked full.
