Time for a new VP44
Just got the news that the vp44 on my truck will need to be replaced again. I just have a few questions. Would the average person be able to replace the pump with the right equiptment and literture? If so, I would use the money i saved to go towards a high performence VP44 (i.e. dragon flow or scheid) I was wondering if the high performence pumps have any durabilty advantages or will they just go out like a reman unit? Also what brand of VP44 would be the best or are they the same?

Basic tools are all you need. For the gear I use a cheap steering wheel puller. Compact and easy to use.
I usually just recommend a SO pump as we know that we can get a pretty good service life out of them. The so called high performance pumps I am not sold on yet as I can't speak to their durability adn lack of continuity regarding peak HP numbers and or flow rates.
Yes, there is a difference in rebuilders.
