Time for new tires
I've got a 2001.5 Ram 2500 4x4 CTD. The stock Michelin 265/75/16 tires have about had it.
My truck is the wide longbed model, and IMO these tires look small on the truck. I was hoping to be able to get some wheels when I did the tires, but the $$$ just isn't there. (Nothing fancy, I just hate the plastic on the stock wheels).
Anyhow, my questions are:
1) Anybody know of any tire deals?
2) Anybody have any recommendations on tire size? I'm thinking BFG AT in the 285/75/16 size (or maybe Nitto's if I can get them cheaper). Will that size tire be ok on the stock wheels?
Thanks!
No Worries

Re:Time for new tires
285/75X16 will work just fine on stock rims I have them on my 01. you will have a 3.6% diferrence in your odometer according to tire calculator. and your final drive will be a little less you can go to www.dakota-truck.net page down and you will find a pretty neat tire calculator and maybe some info there to help you decide good luck on your new skins

Look into the Bridgestone AT Revo. I have read a lot of great reviews on them and they seem like a great all season tire for the money. I think they are going to be my next set when the time comes.

I also have the BFG 285's, the ride is oh so much better. Speedo is just barely off from the 265's the truck came with. Here is a pic of them on my stock wheels.
I haven't had them long enough to comment on how they wear.

Re:Time for new tires
I checked Goodyear, Walmart, Costco, and Sears today. Seems like the best deal is at Costco at $160/ea for BFG A/T 285/75/r16 or $143/ea for Bridgestone Duelers (same size). Everywhere else was SIGNIFICANTLY higher, and they didn't include installation.
Do you think it's worth paying ~$75 more for the BFG's? I think they look better, but if the Dueler's will last longer on the highway, that might be the better choice for me.
Amazing price difference (between Costco & non-Costco) Didn't find anybody selling Nitto's. Pep boys has Futura Dakota for $92--maybe if they didn't have the name in raised white letters it would be an option-hehehe. Walmart is similar, with Liberators for $95. For some reason those tires just say "WEAK!"
I'm at 45k on my stock Michelin 265/75/r16's. They still have some tread left, but they slip/slide/squeel. And I got a nail in one of the back tires--it's only a matter of time before that's a problem. I'm going to be driving up to Norcal in a couple of weeks, so I'm thinking I want to get the tires before the trip.

If you go to tirerack.com you can read a lot of great reviews on several different types and brands of tires. Even if you don't intend on buying through them, it is a good resource for comparison and real world experience.

Re:Time for new tires
Noworries,
I have a 2002 4x4 and I bought a set of Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo's and I love them. I bought the 285/75/16's and they only come in a D rating in that size. My next set will be back to the stock size 265/75/R16's in a set of E rated Revo's. I have 15,000 miles on the 285's with a full season of drag racing and pulling and the tread is still great! The amazing thing is that they are fairly aggressive tires and they make "NO" road noise and the treads are great in the rain. Until a better tire comes out they will be my choice. They also were rated No 1 out of 24 tires tested on tiretrack.com.
Hope this helps!

BFGoodrich 295-75-16 tires are the ones I just put on about 4 thousand mile ago great traction in mud and snow and fill wheel wells perfect. Lock to Lock they will scrub torsion bar slightly was told they wouldn't rub but that won't stop me on my next set of tires of putting on the same size

I really like the new Revo's on my Jeep.
That said....I just put BFG Commercial Tractions on the 3500. 6 Revo's were just too much $. Costco can order the BFG Commercials for $110 ea. installed (235/86/16). All the others are $150+. X6 that gets expensive.
The tires look really nice. More aggressive than most AT's, but less aggressive than MT's. They are siped like crazy. I couldn't find much info on them review-wise except for the Land Rover crowd that swears by them. Apparently they replaced the BFG TracEdge which HAD been their tire of choice and they like the new one even better.
They run quiet new. Time will tell, but so far I'm happy and saved several hunert $'s over most choices and still have a brand name tire on there with a tread pattern that looks great.

I've got a set of Goodyear Wrangler AT/S 305-70's that I have put about 45k on and they are still good tread left. Even after a few burnouts...Do well in light mud. Only load range D though. I'm very pleased with them and will probably puchase another set when these are gone...

04 Alloy wheels $250-$350
04 Allloy wheels w/BFG Rugged Trail T/A $600 - $800
04 Steel/chrome wheels with Michilans $400
I have read a lot of negative reviews about the BFG Rugged Trails. Not sure I want them.
My Ideal setup would be 04 Alloy wheels with 285 BFG A/Ts
