Time for a new driveshaft...

Hey folks,

So, I did the Auto to Manual swap a while back and have been having driveshaft related issues ever since. I found a few bucks to throw at the truck and figure I'll get a new driveshaft.

But I'm not sure how best to proceed:

I've checked around at a few places and think I've found some reputable people to do the work.

1. I want to replace everything from the NP205 Yoke back to the rear. I'm not sure exactly what yoke I should get, and if it will come with a washer for the rear nut. I don't think there's one on my truck right now and I'll be damned if I don't have to tighten the TC rear yoke nut every month or so. Not sure on the spline count yet, nor on the size u joints I want. My truck has about as much power as it's probably going to ever, and that's 28 PSI on a stock turbo with 190 injectors.

2. On the driveshaft, should I go with anything special? The truck is sitting on taller tires than stock with an airbag system, so the angles are probably off a bit from stock, and I want to have the smoothest spinning driveshaft in the west...er...east. Would it behoove me to get the booted slip joint?

That's it for now, actually...I need to move on this, so any input from those with experience would be great. Right now my driveshaft is from a cab and chassis truck and it's been cut and welded several times...and I don't think that the last shop balanced it and I don't think I measured it properly, either.

My experience was:

I don't know much about driveshafts;
I found a good shop with mechanics who do that kind of work all day long, and understand what you want and what your truck looks like and requires;
I let the shop measure, fab and install a new shaft when I converted from auto to NV45 plus GV;
Smoothest ride I ever got.

Just my 2 cents!

Yea the best thing to do is go into the shop and ball your eyes out and they'll fix it right up.

I've never heard of a slip joint on a rear driveshaft? Does it really have one or were you talking about getting on?

There is a splined slip joint w/ boot on there. Has to be for rear end to travel.

And no reply to my diesel lawnmower email? Brandon?

I looked into getting something stronger for a driveshaft when i converted to a 14 bolt rear, but didnt have much luck. Our trucks already use the thickest walled tubing for their diameter, so the only way to go stronger would be a larger diameter driveshaft with new yokes and all which equals lots o money.

I know its a bit of a hike but there is a shop in Fairfield, Essex Cty NJ by me that does nice work. Not sure if they do the removal or if it's walk in. They built a new one for me and it came out nice. They reused what they could. And they spin em when done to balance/check. I think they are called axle-exchange. A few places up here if you need.
