It was time for anohter 12v...

Well, I just picked up a nice little '96 3500 dually. Whenever I think of it, I think of "shortbread". But thats another story . Its a nice little truck, should be a bit easier to park than the 2500 Quad Cab Long Bed. Its gonna need a little bit of work, the rear dampers need to be replaced along with the right mirror, and its missing the piece of exhaust pipe right after the muffler, but that'll be easy to fix when I rip everything out and straight pipe it . You'll notice there is no pipe showing from the rear of the truck, and thats why. And of course the turbo silencer has to get pried out. But all and all I really like the truck, it'll be fun to work on. I paid $6,200 for it, might have been a little much but its as low as the guy would go. Its obviously got the Cummins, and a 4 sp. auto, its not 4WD but I don't really need that here in NC. What do you think?

I took a look at them but I couldn't see any kind of a brand or anything... the were really simple actually, they had a bracket for mounting to the main beams and then just the hook was cut out of some really think metal, it said they had a capacity of 5,500 lbs. Sorry I can't be of more help, they were on there when I bought the truck and the guy who I bought it from seemed to not know much about it, so it might be that they were a factory option.

You mean the truck? Heck the guy that I bought the boat from pulled it with a diesel Mercedes and my 2500 handles it just fine.

Its a little 19' Cape Dory Typhoon, I do a bit of sailing down in Greenville NC, I plan to get out a little further someday. I'm trying to sell a 27' C&C 27 now also, but thats not an issue because it has to be hauled out with a travellift, there won't be any yanking that thing up the ramp with anything short of a Peterbilt Come to think of it thats really the only reason I wish I had 4WD on one of my trucks, because you have to sometimes get the trailer down so far in the water to get the boat over the side supports that you have to back off the concrete of the ramp, and on a slippery ramp it might be a challenge pulling those wheels back up a straight drop of concrete.

Ya it deffinately looks good man. Thats not to bad of a price. I've been lookin for a truck and it seems that everybody wants current MSRP for their truck(94-98). I guess I will just keep lookin.

Ever looked on craigslist? Go to www.craigslist.org and check out the cars+trucks section, there you can put in a keyword like "diesel" and a price range. Its like online classifieds. Be sure to select the right list for where you live.

Sorry if this violates some kind of advertising rule, but I got my 3500 off there and thought I'd share the site. I'm in no way working with them or anything.

I've got a Bayfield 25 & used it as 1 excuse for getting a truck. Of course, boat & trailer are only 4000#. Besides, boat only gets pulled every 2nd or 3rd year ao I could borrow a truck. When you want to do something, 1 excuse is as good as another.

I have no excuse for driving a truck... if I'm gonna drive a truck, I'm gonna drive a truck. And if I'm gonna have 2, I'm gonna have 2 . The truck was great today, its only the second day I've had it. It runs smooth, and I have to say I like the 3.54 rear end, I'm only running about 1800-1900 RPM @ 70 MPH compared to the 2200ish I run on the 4.10 geared 2500. However I still need to put my little handheld GPS in there to see if the speedo is right... you never know with those things, that and the fuel gauge. On the way to pick up this one I joked around saying that I was gonna get another broken fuel gauge in this one... and turns out I did. Now I have to remember two different mileages to fuel up at at the pump.
