Tie Rod End problem

I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Mega Cab, 5.9l Diesel 4x4 and my ball joint just broke at my tie rod end on driver's side outer. And the problem is I spoke with the Dodge house and they said they dont make that part anymore, that I have to buy the whole new steering system that they have redone. So now for a $50 part they want me to spend alomst a $700. My tie rod is a alot bigger and longer than the new designed ones, Oreilly had the new part but it is way too small in dia. and length. So does anybody know where I can find the old style? Whats weird is my two friends drive the same truck and year model and they have the new design on theirs, I guess mine was made before theirs. I guees I need to find a wrecked one that has the same size part.

they did not start installing the new steering linkage onto trucks until 08. if your buddies have the new steering on, they either installed it themselves or their trucks were under the 3/36 warranty and the dealership installed it for a steering problem. you can buy the entire new steering with damper for a lot less than $700.

I need to know where to buy a newer system cheaper than the dealer? Also my friends are different than mine by size in diameter, mine is larger and theirs is smaller and both of theirs came that way from factory no changes. I seen the one today at Oreilly that matched the part number for my truck and it was the only part number available for my truck and it looked just like my friends tie rod which was smaller than mine dramatically.

Check out SourceAutomotive.com and take a look at their upgraded steering setup....I think it was less than $350.

What is the part number of the steering linkage on your truck? The new style is 52122362AE ("AF" seems to pop up too, like mine).

AE(F) parts are huge compared to the previous AA-AD versions.

If the linkage on your truck is bigger than others, sounds like you already have the upgraded steering. I've heard one of the other guys around here (txarrowhunter)? with the same problem. He blew a tie rod end on the new linkage and since those parts have not filled the parts shelves yet, he too had to buy the entire linkage just for the tie rod end.

3 weeks ago I also broke a tie rod end on my "upgraded steering kit". Called Dodge they said they did not make just a tie rod end and I'd have to buy the whole new kit again. Parts houses had tie rod ends but not the right size for the "new steering kit". New kit cost $240 from dealer. Called Dodge and told them what a POS the new kit was because the tie rod end snapped off after only about 1 years use. They sent me a check for the cost of the "new steering kit". The "new" kit part number now ends in AF.

Mine reads 52106836AB and its alot bigger than most, I guess because its a mega cab its considered heavy duty 2500? I am waiting to hear back from Dodge customer service, they open a case for me today and said they will send it to a case mgr to investigate and if the part is no longer made that they might do a good will deal. So I'm crossing my fingers on that...

Well finally gotten truck back from dealer and Dodge Corporate agreed and paid for half of my brand new steering system at warranty rate which cost me $308, I feel they help me out more than I thought they would have, so I am happy and my truck drives better now with the new system.

That part number is for the old style (06-07) pitman arm. New pitman is 68039930AA.

Glad you got it sorted out. What all new parts did you get?

They replace it all, starting at the pitman arm and all the linkage that connects from the pitman arm all the way down to both wheels and stabilzer shock. Much better ride now. My old setup was the same size in dia. meaning it was the beefier setup, just like the one I got put on, just a little slight diff. in length of certain parts and fittings. Im just shocked that Dodge helped me out after 55k and being the second owner, I found me a new dealer now, since my last visit at another dealer went sour and they were only 3 miles from my house and now this dealer is 23 miles but worth the drive for better customer service.

Do you need the new pit man arm with the kit from Source or can I use the factory one that is on my 03?

I was told you have to get a new pitman arm too, due to the angle has changed.
