I know this has been discussed on multiple occasions. I even started a few thread. My question is has anyone had any problems with lifters? On initial start in the morning the mighty cummins ticks really bad. Sounds like a noisy lifter or rocker out of adjustment. I have had the valve cover off and checked a few months back everything checked OK. This morning it was ticking really bad till i brought the idle up for a few minutes and it eventually quieted down. I cant take the valve cover of for a few weeks to check again as my arm is broken. so any ideas on how to diagnose. the last few days its been running really well milage is down but it has been for a while.

How many miles are on the truck? It sounds like you need the valves adjusted if it is a valve train rattle. When the head heats up the clearance will decrease causing less rattle. Another guy on here posted about a ticking sound and found one of the blue isolator mounts loose on one of the CR to injector lines. Hope this helps.

Check out this thread. Don't know if it will help or not...but worth checking.
