tick noise at idle mostly when cold II
I posted about this awhile back was reading on another thread/board where the HO has reliefs in the bottom of the pistons for the oil sprays. it said the piston was installed incorrectly and caused this tick. what type of tick is normal and how much this is my first diesel and with the new ones being so quiet i hear all sorts of things im not used too.

Mine has small ticking noise too, but even some when it is warm. Since I came from a 99 noisy cummins, I just thought I was overly sensitive to the new sounds. The ticking reminds me of a small exhaust manifold leak but I presumed it was normal.

Re:tick noise at idle mostly when cold II
I have been debating whether it is the rearmost cyclinder firing. It occurs about that frequency, or the frequency of a valve or injector.
I also thought it may be the lift pump.
Mine seems to go away when warm, except if you load the engine at low rpm's (off idle) in low gears like a quick 1,2,3 shift without putting your foot on the go pedal.
Then again...run it til it breaks. The "technician's" at the dealership dont know how to diagnose anything unless the diagnotic computer points them in the proper direction. What ever happened to "mechanics" working at "repair garages".
