Thuren linkage... some excellent stuff !!

I wanted to make a post to say thanks to Don for making his stuff available. I finally got a chance to get his linkage and my DSS installed. WOW, it's like a night and day different in how the truck handles.

No more wander, no steering play and I was having trouble aligning the truck with the 37's on there but, with a few twists of the linkage to extend or retract the heims aligned it up without even doing a alignment on the machine.

I do still plan on a alignment to adjust the toe but as it is now, it really doesn't need it.

If you're tired of sloppy steering... give Don a call, he's got the fix !

Does DSS stand for dual steering stabilizer?

close... " Dodge steering stabilizer "

It not only makes the frame in the front end rigged, it's stabilizes the steering gear box and make the steering more solid. Quite the ingenious fabrication

I can only surmise the slop you're experiencing is the leverage the 37's have on the stock linkage. With 33's,Don's trackbar,Defiant's steering gear brace and Lorenz's suspension system this truck steers like our Honda. Coming out of a 2nd gen. these 3rd gens. handle real well. I forgot to mention the 2000# load 24/7 I've got on my back. Glad Don has been able to enhance a great stock setup.

Well... yes, it really helped the steering with 37's. I plan to install the same set up on the wife's stock truck too.

You may think the 3rd gen steering is better from the 2rd gen which I'm sure it is. Ram's have always has steering problems and i would hope with each year that goes by Dodge would make an improvement. They really haven't though.

When my truck was stock it handled terribly. It even bottomed out a couple times and the roll was ridiculous ! One the lift was installed, it was 100% better but still had wander. Don's stuff fixed all that though.

The heims make the front end like a 4 link set up. It's solid as can be with zero play!

What is the life expectancy of those heims though? I've looked at it and thought about it alot, but think the heims are gonna wear out fast on my grocery getter!?

My guess is much, much longer than any rubber bushing and cheesy ball joint will. Don would probably be able to answer that more definitively though

3"Inch Thuren Suspension System 3-RD Gen

I just installed a Full Thuren Fabrication suspension system on my 2005 Dodge, And All I can say is its Night And Day Difference In Road Handling, All small Bumps Pot holes Expansion type joints, are absorbed So Well.
King resevoir Shocks , Fox Steering Dampner , Thurens Coil Springs, Deaver Mini Pac (Leaf Springs ) Thurens Adjustable Trac Bar. Stainless Steel End Links,
I am running BFG All- Terrains 285/70/17 Just had Front End Aligment done And this Thing handles So Great No more going into and leaning in turns before I would never dare to go 60-plus in an area on the HWY a few Miles from our Subdivision, And Now it feels effortless to do and Such Control.
I ended up with about 3.25 Lift in the Front , And 1.50 in the Rear. ( The Way I like to look at this system is it is desinged to be a Great Road Handling
Set-up With probably the Softest Coils on the Market, They measured 22" inches Tall , The system is set-up so those King Shocks Can Come into play earlier with the Combo of the Tall Soft Coil Springs provides and Excellent Ride, And Just enough height . I am using the new Silver anodized Kore Chase Control Arms, Although I know Don is going to be making these soon too.
Just picked up a Front set of Cyro Treated Power Slot Rotors , and some akebono ceramic Brake pads to install this coming weekend, My Rotors Are Fine actually Its just the pads are about Shot"
And I wanted to get Some increased stopping performance since if have installed the mods and made the truck Faster I want to also be able to Stop Faster,.

I agree. Great products. Just purchased the HD Bent Steering Kit, Adjustable Track bar, DSS steering stabilizer, and DSS 03' track bar reolcation kit. The kit clears the front Mag-Hytec diff cover w/o any problems.

Don

Don's stuff is awesome. I've been running around with the full setup the last 4 or 5 months and I love it. I still get complements about the ride when I have some new in my truck. I need to do the steering linkage too, but that will have to wait until after hunting season. Hey Torq Master, what's the word on Don's control arms? You said you have Kore's on now, but Don was coming out with some? Spill the beans. Thanks.

I have Mr. Thurens steering stabilizer and adjustable trac bac on order.
I am going to try my hand at fabricating my own end links. I have a picture of Difiants end links and they look well made. I am going to try and make my set similar.

Has anyone else fabricated their own end links? If so maybe I could get some information from you on overall size and what size rod ends to use.

Thanks Boris

Having been one of Don's early guinea pigs....

I have about 70K now on my track bar and x-over steering. Haven't touched the track bar, replaced the heims on the tie rod ends at about 60-60K. Drag link ends are due, but it looks like the truck will get sold before I do them.

Even with shot out heims, it still steered better than it ever did with the OEM style TRE's. New 3/4X3/4 heims should run you about $40-45 each for top notch FK's with the teflon race.

Funny how 2 years ago I was pushing Don's stuff really hard, now it's selling itself.

Donny, you owe me big

PS, Defiant has a steering box brace that just came out.....pretty trick unit. Made out of 1 piece and works with sway bar drops....
