For a while my truck was exhibiting some strange symptoms: Idle speed would momentarily dip down below its usual level and power seemed to be less than usual. I was about ready to bring it into the dealer, although I don't relish spending a good part of the day sitting at a dealership. The owner's manual states that fuel additives aren't recommended. That being the case, I never used an additive. Well, this time I thought I'd give it a try anyway. I purchased a bottle of Power Service (see photo) and poured 8oz into my 34 gallon tank. I then filled the tank.

What amazed me is the fact that from the very day I used the additive the problems disappeared. I waited several days to post this info to be sure it wasn't just a quick, temporary fix. Coincidence? I think not. The stuff really seems to work!

My advice is that if you're experiencing similar symptoms and haven't tried an additive yet, do so before having it serviced. As for myself I don't think I'll be using an additive at every fill-up but occasionally only as a preventative measure.

Power service is all I use. I put in half a bottle ( 16oz) almost every tank full. They make several types, white bottle is good for winter, grey bottle has a celtane booster which is what I run. Wal Mart carries it for around six bucks for 32 oz. You can buy it in 16 oz, 32oz and 1 gallon jugs. The stuff is great and helps lube you injectors. I have 70000.0 miles on truck and no fuel delivery problems. Truck runs like a champ.

Does anyone know why additives are NOT recommended in the owner's manual? They sure seem to help....

Because the dealer wants you to bring the truck to them when you start having problems so they can run an additive thru the injectors and put some in your tank and charge you an arm and a leg to do it

Because your DPF and CATs will clog up quicker if you use additives..... Supposedly....

Dodge doesn't want you to use additives because there hasn't been a study as to what they may do to the diesel particulate filter.
does " diesel kleen" by power service say it's safe for DPF's

yea i run power service in every tank. Great stuff. Wouldnt run anything else/

Exactly.. They can't be sure that the ash from the additives will be burned off in the REGEN and may plug off the filter. I have a hard time believing that when in my 97, using additives reduced my soot clouds.. ????
