throwing oil out of the rear axle.
changed rear dif oil at 16k has 23k now and is throwing oil all over the brakes. Did the syn oil (Redline) cause the seals to leak? I would think that it should go way over 23k before these seal go out.
Under warranty but it is a hassle

only one one side? I did fill to the hole. I have heard that it should be 1/2 inch below the hole. All my other trucks that was what the hole was for fill till it seeps and it is good. Hope I didn't do it. Dodge might deny the warranty. I suppose any excuse is good enough.

Our trucks are delivered with syn oil, so its doubtful, but not improbable that RL caused the seal to leak. The leak could be coincidental with your oil change. Stuff does happen.
Did you read the manual (RTFM)? Whats your manual say is the fill level? Mine reads that its ok to fill to the hole (doing the higher level math using fractions). Thats where I've filled mine to.
Sounds like a warranty issue, and worth the hassle.

Thanks Guys
I think I did read the manual. Must have? In order to get the right oil and amount. I filed it to the seep level. I hope it is just seals, it does make the poping noise that some have described with the Limited slip rear ends. It has done that since day one and I figgured it was the nature of the beast.

I just don't understand how what amounts to probably about 1/2 qt of oil between 1/4 inch low and the hole can cause seals to leak. That just doesn't make sense to me.

I think its just a seal gone bad and nothing to do with your changing the fluilds. I found mine seeping at 100K miles and then rebuilt the entire rear end seals, brakes, and all. When I filled the fluid I filled it up to the hole not knowing the 1/2 inch thing. I have not had a drop leak in 60K miles. The dealer mayl have to drain and refill the case anyway to change the axle seal. As long as they get to charge DC they won't care.
