Thoughts on Jeep Liberty CRD?

Curious what you fellas thought about the 2.8L diesel Jeep Liberty. Dad mentioned he was interested in finding an '06 as a runnin' around ride. I know the Grand Cherokees had the diesel option and the new ones are coming out next year but these 05-06 vehicles are in the right price range and mileage.

I'm not a stranger to riding in a diesel suv as I owned a '96 Isuzu Wizard 3.1TD 4wd when in Japan so I've got that driving experience in my head as a standard for this kind of vehicle. Is the Motori CRD dependable? MPGs sound about right (22-27mpg) for what I got from my Wizard. It always started. Relatively comfortable. I enjoyed it.

Anyway - thoughts?

From what I have read (diesel power) and a few other articles they seem just fine, you can even find some power adders and suspension kits,

A buddy of mine had one. He liked it for the most part. The only problem he had was when he put on an aftermarket bumper and on occasion when going up hills it would overheat a little.

We've got a V6 Liberty and no problems. I've heard the tranny can't handle the torque so you'll need to beef it up a little. I'm getting 20 with ours & heard you can expect 25 all day long with the diesel.

So are the newer diesel cars using DEF in the emissions system just like the trucks?

I almost bought one one time. I remember people recommending some suncoast converter and a valve body.

They sometimes have oil backup into the intercooler somehow when something common breaks? Something like that, look it up there is a fix for it.

They have good power, strong. Reminds me of a Toureg TDI but not as good. Same power band though.
