Thoughts on 2001 QC
Hey all, new member here and first post. I would like some thoughts and opinions on what I'm looking at. 2001 QC 2WD 6Spd Manual w/3.55 gearing in extremely nice shape. 38K miles and dealer wants $14K.1 rust blister under the paint of the passenger side rocker, about the size of a quarter. Some surface rust on the frame but not bad at all for a 10 year old truck in Upstate NY. However there is quite a bit of rust on the drive shaft. Any one know why that would happen?. Other than a couple minor scratches, can't find any thing else wrong. I drove it a day ago, and I loved the manual. Last manual was a Ford w/300 i6 and I have wanted another stick ever since. Tons of low end grunt (expected) but pretty flat above 50mph, so I will say no mods have been done. Currently driving a 98 2500 QC 2WD Auto w/ 65,000mi 5.9 Gasser that gets about 12 MPG and I just reblt the tranny. Gotta love those Auto's!
My only hang up is........ the 2001 is exactly the same as my 98, as far as appearance. and I am worried about body issues in the not too distant future considering the age of the truck. Soooo, I guess my question is.....do you guys think 14k is a good price. There is nothing to compare it to up here because everyone is 4 x4 crazy! And is it good enough to justify buying a 10 year old truck similar to what I already have?
Sorry for the long post.

Things I personally didnt like on the quad cans were the body rusting out. The doors and the wheel openings were always (it seemed) to rust out. The only thing I didnt like on the motor was the injection pumps (vp44's) I had problems with and had to have one replaced @ 60K miles.
Being its only got 38 K miles on it now, doenst sound like its too bad of a price for a 2wd. Worst case scenerio is to have the bed/doors replaced in 2-3 years. Good Luck

Thanks guys for the info. They gave me the former owners ph# and I spoke with him this morning. The truck was stored winters and used only for hauling a 5th wheel when they traveled spring and summer. Thus the low mileage.
It has rear discs, is there any other differences between the 01 and 01.5? Also being the HO Motor, is the same VP used? I have read about the issues concerning the VP44. Heading back tonight to make an offer.

Same truck I own. Having the rear disks makes it an 01.5. If it has the camper package & towing package it's basically a 1 ton SRW. You can see that by the rear stabilizer bar & factory overloads. Add a gauge for the primary fuel pressure, and drive it. $14K does seem a little high, but 38K miles is really low.
