Lightbulb To those with PML diff covers

I was ready to buy the new PML diff cover (P/N 10361) for the Dodge 11.5" diff and found out an issue with the check/level plug. To remove the plug a flange bolt has to be removed. Just talked with PML about this and they have re-designed the diff cover to solve this issue. PML stated the new cover should be available at the end of this month.
Guess Santa will be delivering my Christmas present a little late this year.

I have one of the origional design covers from them, it is 1 quart over stock (5 total) I have been very happy with it, the only issue was the spare touched the top of it when the truck is loaded heavy, I moved the spare slightly to the rear and it solved the problem.
There is a picture in my gallery.

MikeyB,

I've got the old style sitting on the bench for install in the spring. I'll check them in the morning and see what type of hardware will clear if any. I read an old thread about someone taking just a touch off of one fastener and having no farther interferance problems. I'll try to verify what it would take if you like.

There is no interference with either the fill plug or the drain plug on the PML cover I have.

You could see if they would sell you one of the origional design covers. It is the same as the one for the 3/4 and 1 ton GM trucks they just machine a little more off on the inside so it clears the ABS ring on the ring gear that the Dodge has and the GM does not. It holds more than the new one but if you tow or haul heavy you have to move the spare back slightly to keep it from touching.

I thought about using the PML cover that's for the GM 11.5" trucks. But was concerned about the interference with the spare tire. The spare would have to slide back over a 1" to clear the housing. That cover is probably fine with the 4x4s but it's awfully close on the 4x2s.

Morning members,

It's been a little of a mixed bag on the new Dodges as far as the diff covers. As much as folks will tell you the Dodge hasn't changed the diffs around they have and depending on the one you have it will fit perfectly or have a small potential intererence fit on some trucks.

The fill plug issue has been changed and they do a special cover for the Dodges vs the Duramax, the compettion uses the same cover and tells you to not use all the mounting holes if they don't line up etc.

We have been selling the PML covers for some time and have had excellent customer respone on the quality and pricing as well. Give us a call if you have any questions etc. AND PLEASE OH PLEASE on any 2003 or newer Dodge check the glove box to ID the axle that you have, it's such a pain for the customer to get their new cover, drain the fluid and then find out they don't have the axle they thought they were supposed to have.

move the spare??
Just slack the cable and tighten it pushed back or modify something?

Do you fill to the inspection port or some distance below?
Did you torque it at 15ft-lb like the instructions say or a tad more?

getting ready to do mine any day now.
