Third Gen. Exhaust??

Im looking at selling my '01 and am looking at getting an '06 megacab. I have been thinking about it and the thing i am going to miss the most is the sweet sound the second generations get out of their exhausts. Now ive heard quite a few third generations with exhaust but i have to be honest i dont think they sound that good. On the flip side i have also heard a few that have the sound i want. Dont know if the ones that dont sound as good are just the stock pipes with the muffler and cat cut or what.

Just looking for some advice on a good exhaust for the thirds that has the sound i am looking for.

-want it throaty
-big rig turbo sound when down shifting or upshifting and at idle
-want one that sounds good at idle and acceleration and SCREAMS when the coals are poured.

Any help would be great, just trying to do some research before i make the dive

MBRP. No doubt about it. If u want that big rig whistle, add an AFE intake. I put stacks on mine, and love it. Only downside is the cab drone when u go above 2000 rpm. But a mean sound it makes!

You will already have a 4" exhaust. Change out the muffler to a freeer flowing one, and remove the resonnater.

Turbo back

I went the cheap route, since I already had a 5" system lying around, so I just hacked off the pipe right before the cat(so stock 4" downpipe) into 5" from about the front wheel, all the back and out, into a 6" tip, sounds great, wouldnt have it any other way

My only temptation would be 7" mitre stacks, but they dont sound as good on a 3rd gen(compared to a 12 valve) and I have a shortbed and cant lose anymore bedspace as it is....

I have a stainless cat back and I love the sound of mine. (My neighbors don't when I crank my truck at 5:00 am!) I like the sound of the 2nd gens, but I like the sound of mine also. I am putting a new intake on my truck, hopefully I will get more turbo noise.

What he (she?) said.

Unless you're mkaing big big HP, just change the muffler, you don't need 5" pipes, dual exhaust or any of that, unless you still have lotsa money after buying the new truck.

Do a search, someone starts the same thread every day or so...

I've heard of some people saying a 3rd gen will sound similar to a 2nd gen after installing an ATS manifold.

Cat. is a Federally mandated emissions component. 4" is good up to say 500HP. I'd be spending my money on the Tranny or guages.
