thinking about an '09

well ladies and gents, i sold my 05 a little while back. naturally i have a bit of seller's remorse. my intentions were good at the time i suppose. but now i miss having a diesel and rowing those sweet 6 gears. so, i'm loosely entertaining the idea of getting into an '09; especially if they're offering 0% financing. i'm pretty skeptical though. what's all the hub bub about unplugging egr this and blocking that (some other 3 letter acronym deal that i can't remember)? what's with the new motors? are they worth their salt? they seem real finicky from what little info i've read on them. man i sometimes wish i'd have kept my '05. it was paid for too. oh well, what's done is done.

the "dpf." yeah, that's it. what is the dpf thingy?

The DPF is the diesel particulate filter. catches soot and burns it during a regen to clean the filter. EGR takes some of that soot and dumps it right back into the intake. Youd have a hard time deleting in California, although theres plenty that do it. Id ask them how they deal with deletes and inspections and upcoming emissions testing I think they have coming...

Im looking into an 09 myself, although Im in Wyoming and nobody really cares if you have the DPF in place or not. Theyve gotten better since the introduction, there doesnt seem to be nearly the problems as the early 6.7s seemed to have. Although you hear more about guys having problems than those that have none. I know a guy that hasnt had a single issue with his 07.5.

The 6.7 is a good engine; its a cummins after all. I wouldnt hesitate getting one, but personally Ill be deleting the DPF and EGR cooler if I end up getting one...

i have the same story.i just bought an 09 after 5yrs without a cummins.i was real hesitant after reading all the stuff your talking about.iv'e talked to a few guy's with 09's that believe some of it has gotten better.but,it may be to soon to tell.there's lot's of positive's too.they just don't get posted as much as negatives.i'll cross the bridge when it comes.iv'e got 900 miles on mine and i love it.it's a beast.

Thanks. I've been without mine for a month I'm drivin' around in a 2000 z71 that i got a real good deal on, but man i miss my dodge. plus i hate autos. that whole exhause setup on the new ctd's makes me nervous...all that electronic bs too. man, i've seen the new engines and it doesn't even look like an engine...it looks like a bunch of hodge podge stuffed in the engine bay. yer truck looks good leveled out.
