Thinkin of straight piping again

well, I have had a single 3", and a single 4" straight pipe on my truck. Both were on the obnoxious side above 25 SPI of boost with the stock HX35.

Now I am thinking of deleting the 16" walker muff, and installing two 3" resonator tips. Each on one of the dual pipes.

Any clue on how loud this will be?

I did test the single 3", and with the hx35, it came to a whopping 117 db.

I am hoping that with the resonated duals it wont be much over 99db

Re:Thinkin of straight piping again

Wouldn't have any idea how loud that would be but I have driven mine with a resonator and no muffler and it is much more civil than my buddie's totally straitpiped truck. Both trucks are identical except for my resonator. I really like the way a resonator takes the harshness out of the exhaust tone.

Better yet "U" it back around toward the cab and put a megaphone on it. That's almost as sweet a sound as bullfrogs in love! :-)

Would the flow be the same with the resonator left on and no muffler as a totally straight pipe, or will the resonator restrict flow to some degree?

Re:Thinkin of straight piping again

I would have done that except I don't want to cut a hole through the hood.

Re:Thinkin of straight piping again

Friend of mine ran 132dB's at an 1/8 mile track last year.

When you go into dual pipes, it will be quieter,, thicker walled pipe wil be quieter, larger exhaust housings will be louder.

Pansy passengers will increase the whine, and little kids will exagerate the drone.

I like the sound of straights too,now for the wife, inside the cab as thecase of drone, she didn't and it kind of bugged me too. so I wraped from engine to behind cab with header wrap,no drone, now we are both happy, goodluck Rick

Re:Thinkin of straight piping again

kandgo, did that change your EGT's? Sounds like a great idea but I have heard that header wrap can cause the pipe to go bad from excess heat and the wrap holding moisture. Still, I think it sounds like a good idea.
