so bottom line is im really keen on what i think happened but i wanted other opinions because i have yet to take it apart
so i shut the truck off the other night. thought i heard something scraping when the turbo slowed down and i thought it was wheel to housing contact. then the next day i drove 45 mins to my girlfriends college and the egt's were very quick to climb and the truck felt flat in the seat of the pants feeling. high boost was near impossible seeing as how anything pushing it over 10 lbs of boost it was over 1000 degrees.
any body have ANY other ideas
No other ideas, I think you're on the right track... unfortunately. [yuk]

GREAT. i am doing a powerstroke intercooler install in the very near future and i just bought 600 bucks in tires. i really dont have aton of extra cash to throw around but a hx40 would be nice.
I've been thinking the same thing, if I want to stay with a single. But I'm leaning towards mild twins. [guitar]

re-build it, i'm waiting on parts for my turbo re-build. Stocker back on for now [yuk] only thing good about it, is the fact my head doesn't try to separate its self from the block anymore.

a new hx35 is expensive and not worth it IMO it's not that big of an upgrade
rebuild the one you have now or buy a good used one

Buy an HE351, you can get them preetty cheap and they are dang good turbos. Thats what i bought when i toasted my hy35.
Have you pulled your intake off to check the shaft play and see if its rubbing on the housing yet??? I'd make sure its your turbo first.

for how easy it is to check for rubbing, its worth your motor.

Brandon-I already have the hx 35 and its a lot better than the baby h1c I had before. Plus I can always slap a 60mm wheel on whenever
Austin-I don't think a he351 is a good idea seeing as how I daily drive and I need my truck back on the road asap. There's a good bit of fab involved in that too from what I see. Though I do hear that they are good turbos

The HE351 would be great for a daily driver. I loved mine, I would just keep my eye out for one if i was you, they're not too hard to put on, just need 4" exhaust and the rest is easy.

if your NON-IC i wouldn't do it, if you have an inetercooler go for the he351. "throttle" response is instant!

Nick you mentioned buying a new hx35? I thought you meant like Barnd new $800 from like PDR or something.
I agree you should rebuild your current HX35 (if that's the one that was on it that blew).
And yea 60mm wheel would do good, so would an i/c :D

Go down to boyd's and see if they have a cummins truck and snag the turbo off of it. or find a used 35 for now and save money for the he351.
