I think my nv4500 is GONE!

I left the house today and the shift from 2nd to 3rd was a fast hard one, and she let loose.
When i bought the truck the guy said he had just done the 5th gear nut and new SB clutch. The more I get into this truck the more I realized the guy was blowing smoke up my EDIT.
Now the truck still drives but I cant shift into 3rd gear, 5th gear has been grinding while going into gear for about 2500 miles. It also has a constant banging sound in all gears since it let loose.
Now do I order a complete rebuild from standard transmission or just get it fixed? I heard of a trans shop about 2 hours from me that specializes in nv4500s and truck transmissions. They are in Rock City, Il.
I dont want to get this trans fixed and then have to pull it again in a year.
I am going to start to pull her out tommorrow to see what kind of clutch is in there.

Best bet would be a swap for a ready built one. If the 5th gear nut has been welded on you will need a new mainshaft.

I recommend Blumenthal's. Just now got one of theirs in my truck, and I love it. Smooth................
Was tight going into the gears at first, but it's begining to limber up a little.

I second that, I haven't personally bought a tranny from them, but I have picked up one down there in OKC for some friends and they are top notch people and know what they are talking about

Thanks for all the help guys .

I just got off the phone with monty at Blumenthals and ordered a rebuilt NV4500 with the 1 3/8" shaft.
Then, I called Peter at Southbend Clutch and talked to him and he's building me a 3250 Dual Disc sprung hub.

I think these should handle my NV4500 problems.
Thanks.

You got it kicked in the pants for sure! Wait till you try the 3250....unbelievably smooth for a DD & pedal feels stock. I love this clutch!
