I think my lift pump went boom

I ran my truck out of fuel last night, and put some fuel in this morning, starting priming the pump, and low and behold diesel started squirting out the priming pump thing. My question is, can I just replace that? Or is it part of my lift pump???

And from what I have read, it doesn't look too hard to replace if I do need to, think a complete tard can pull it off if I need to swap it?

I've read you can rebuild'em, but they aren't that expensive so I would advise replacing.

Or you can get a mity-vac and prime the system from the bleeder.

Priming pump "might" only leak when being pumped.

Mine leaks when priming, not when running.

You can replace the o-rings in the pump or replace the pump.

Or you can do like I did, wait until something worse happens.

Even if it runs fine with no leaks, take this as a clue and get the lift pump replaced at the earliest convenient time.

The clue is that the rest of the pump is nearing end of life also. It's easier to replace and prime in the shop on even in the driveway, then on the shoulder somewhere with people driving over your wallet as you work on it in the cold.

The only replaceable part on these lift pumps is the o-ring under the primer button.
Might be what you need
The primer and main pumps are separate pumps.
As long as the primer only leaks when you pump it no big deal.
Cummins and genos have the best price on pumps.
You'll pay way more at an auto parts store.
