When it's time for new tires, I want to get bigger tires and a lift kit. I don't know exactly what size, I'll do some looking to see what suits my taste, but I'm thinking something around a 38" tire, probably 6" of lift. I'll have to research exactly what combos will work of course.

My current tires are about toast, but I do have a spare set. I can only afford so much at once, so I was wondering if there was a cheaper way than an all-out lift kit to get the truck up in the air with new tires until the right kit can be bought?

Or maybe I just need a smack in the head, I don't know.

yes there is a quick way to do it. i dont think you would get 6 inches but maybe 3. coil spacers in the front and blocks and add a leaf in the back

Hey Dave what size are you running now?
35 are a nice size tire. TJ, Ernie and Leonard are all running them. You should check them out when you come to the Buck. All you need for them are a 2" leveling block in front.

Dave, unless you have 4:10s or are planning a gear swap also, I wouldn't recommend bigger then a 35 inch (315/75r16) tire. My 315s are extremely heavy load range E Hankooks, and they really kill some low end power with my 3:55 gears. I am actually considering going back to a 285/75 when these wear out.

If you do have 4:10s then a 35 or 36 inch tire would lower your rpm on the highway without killing to much bottom end power. I have driven a 6spd 4:10 geared truck with 315s and I like it a lot more then my setup, but his 315s are load range Ds, probably 15-20 pounds lighter per tire.

Hey Scott, I'm running a 285/75-16 Load Range D. Calc says it's ~ 33x11. I will have to check out your trucks though and see how they look with the 35's. I'm pretty sure my truck has 3.55's, I think I saw a sticker under the hood that said that. I can always jack it up and turn the wheels to find out for sure, but I'm going to assume 3.55.

For what I do with the truck, driver, and occasionally pulling a race car/trailer, I don't think I need anything more than these D's, I think an E would be overkill?

I do have a '79 Bronco I use for tooling around off-road, I guess I could save the big tires for that.

I've got another set of 285/75-16's that I can use for probably another 40K miles once these tires wear out that came with the truck.

Those trucks look good, I'll have to come check them out in person. I just want to go a little bigger, we'll see how that looks.

I did 315-70-17's with no lift or leveling kit. the bigger tires really killed fuel mileage, around town and empty I have no problems and love the rpm drop on the highway, but with the 3.54 gear it puts it out of its sweet spot towing on the highway, if i had 4.10's it would be perfect I think.

I think when I replace them I will go with a 33

I have run 35's with 3.54's on my 92 with a 5spd and pulled a JD backhoe and had no probs. If you go realy big put it in 4th its better for the trans anyway. It puts 0 strain on the trans becous you connect the input directly to the out put. It is about the same as having 4.10's. If you get in the mud thats what low range is for.

Fuel mileage? Nevermind, read the rest of your sig and fuel mileage isn't much an issue for you anyways.

im rolling 38.5's on a 7inch lift with 3.55's hahaha man life sucks but hey at least the truck looks good! i'll try and get some pics up. im going to gear but dont know what to gear it to my only option is 4.10 or 4.56 right no 4.30's for these axles?

i want to downsize to 37's also the 38.5 rub just a little bit i cut like an inch of the bottom fender but i moves my diff forward with the long arm kit from rock crawler.
