How to test Quad Recon EGT

Does anyone know how to verify the egt readings. I am trying figure out why my egt's are high. Just want to make sure they are truly high or just a bad gauge/probe.

Well, how high are they?

Just shooting from the hip your truck should see anywhere from 1350-1400 WOT in mostly stock trim. If you are at altitude or the weather is really hot you might be able to add 50-75 deg to that in the right circumstances.

At 65-70 mph on the highway 800-1200, on the highway inclines 1100-1400 and this is just cruising. Slow excelleration(maybe half throttle) from 40-65 up to 1350. I posted in Engine and Drivetrain and the response was that the EGT's are too high. When I had the Quad std box on 60 I would hit 1600-1700 pretty easy. In drive and stopped 550. Just try to figure out if I have a problem. Thank you for any input or direction to take.

That sounds a little high to me as well. Where do you have the thermocouple?

Make sure you did not tap it real deep and the end of the TC is not hitting the other side of the exahust manifold.

The only other thing I can think of is either something is wrong with the gauge, TC or the truck.

We can easily eliminate 2 of them by sending you new ones. If that does not fix it you have to believe it and think that something is drastically wrong.

What are your boost levels? Do you by chance have a plastic IC that might be cracked or any possible boost leaks? This will make the EGT's go through the roof.

The wierd part is I have never had a guage that just read a little too high or a little too low. Usually if they are broke they are really broke. That concerns me a little and might warranty looking at some other things. I don't want to scare you and I have happy to replace some parts to make sure but, in the past we have not had any issues like this at all.

I installed the TC per your intructions. I will check to make sure it is not touching while I look at a few other possibilities. Thanks

Quad, I removed the TC wiped the soot off and reinstalled it. It was not touching the bottom of the manifold. The temps are now down almost 100-200. WOT up an incline excellerating from 40-60 it will hit low 1400. Crusing 65-70 700-1150. Any ideas?
Air filter (Borrowed new one)did not make a difference.
Boost levels will hit 32 WOT
