Temp gauge on overhead off
I got in the truck yesterday and was driving in about 90* outside temps. I looked at the overhead and saw that the temp gauge read 58* outside. I tried switching the computer between settings and each time when I went back to the gauge/compass setting the temp read 58* . When I got to where I was going I got in the truck and started it up, 58*! Anybody see this before? I have to get this fixed ASAP. I commute with two guys that own Duramaxes and I can't let them see the slightest problem with my truck or I'll never hear the end of it.

Sounds like the temp sensor has gone bad, or there's 'resistance' in the line due to bad/corroded connection.
Either will cause same problem, and hard to deteremine which is cause.
Start by unplugging/plugging connector near sensor in grill area. After that trip to dealer is probably only fix

I've noticed mine will stick after going through a carwash. It sticks anywhere from an hour up to 1-2 days sometimes. That's the only time it seems to stick and when it's working it works really well.
Just put the overhead reading on MPG instead of temp and your buddies won't have anything to razz you about.

Mine did the same thing about a month ago. It was around 60 outside and my temp on overhead read -40. After about 30 min I watched it move back to the right temp. Hasn't done it since. Haven't thought too much about it till I read this.

There is a TSB out for this, http://dodgeram.info/tsb/2006/08-026-06.htm
Mine was reading the -40, so I had the flash done and now it's fine.

Yep. Mine did it over the winter when I went thru a car wash and it was like 15 deg. outside. It eventually came back after a few days, however I did unplug the sensor and plug it back in, don't think it came back that instant but not long after that. Hasn't done it since, and I always watch it now if I go thru a wash.

Thanks guys. I'll try to unplug it and plug it back in first, I just didn't know where it was located. If all else fails I'll go to the dealer for the reflash but I avoid them if at all possible.

Sorry it took a while to get back to the guys that offered help...I got in my truck two days later and the temp gauge was fine. I hope to not have to take it to the dealer for the flash, maybe it was a one time deal. Thanks again.
