Tell Me If My Clutch Is Toasted

I have had oil leaking from somewhere under the truck for a long time now and never could figure out from where. Power Steering started to whine a little so I checked the fluid and it was empty. Pulled into the next parts store I saw to get fluid and when I went to back into the parking place it wouldn't go in or out of gear. Shut the truck of it works just fine. After I put the power steering fluid in and played with it for a while now it works sometimes. I limped this thing over 400 miles home today, through downtown St Louis during rush hour slammin and jammin gears when I had to. I know that the power steering and clutch are intertwinned in there through the hydro boost somewhere. So my question is, is this two seperate problems and my clutch is toast or are they related and I maybe just have air in the power steering lines causing the off and on clutch problems.

sounds like your slave cylinder is bad, defenitly two seperate problems. The slave /master cylinder are their own unit seperate from everything else

Talked to South Bend and they are suggesting a new master/slave unit that comes as a complete sealed unit. Any advice or suggestions on these things.

I had a similar situation in dowtown Raleigh (nothing like St. Louis) had to shut the truck off to get it into reverse, then restart it in gear, third was all I had from a dead stop, rush hour of course

Talked to South Bend and they are suggesting a new master/slave unit that comes as a complete sealed unit. Any advice or suggestions on these things.
That's what I got, fixed it right up, the only tricky part was the clutch pos. sensor. (broke the clip, straight wired the connections till I got a new one)

not sure if this helps since I had no trouble with the steering.

hope it helps

Thanks to all, An opinion on this being a right or wrong thing to try and some personal experience was what I was looking for.
I'm just gonna rebuild the power steering next and be done with it.
