Tell me it didnt blow up!
Hey everybody, need a couple of the veterans i think. I just put new ddp 3's in the truck last week. Then last night the only thing I did to the truck was turn the starwheel back up a couple turns for less low end smoke. Then....this morning im driving the truck to work playing with it a little to see what it will do, its so much stronger than before that I slipped the sachs clutch that I puts in just last year(in 4th gear, a few times). Wasnt even that bummed about the clutch because the truck was running so good. Then I thought id bear down on it one more time before i got to work. Im winding it up in fourth, foot almost to the floor and there was a very soft blow if you will, then lost the power. I let of the gas, let it coast for a while thinking I just blew it up, but the truck came down to an idle like normal. Then accelerates like normal until about 1100-1200 rpms....then the motor starts shaking, not violently but wont fuel any higher.if you push the pedal down any farther the fuel dies until you let back off to 1100-1200 rpms or lower. Still blows black smoke...maybe just a little bit of blue smoke if you try to push it past 1200 rpms. AND THATS MY SAD STORY. i pulled the afc cover off and the fuel pin is ok, the spring above the starwheel is ok, and I dont think it has anything to do with the throttle linkage. My question is WHAT HAPPENED and HOW DO I FIX IT?

Sounds like you blew off an intercooler boot. Check all the tubing and hose connections to/from the Intercooler and look for holes in the boots.

I was thinking the same thing that you blew an intercooler boot. Do you have gauges? does it read any boost? Check all your intercooler boots and make sure they are there or if they have a big hole in them.

All the boots are on with no holes in them, all the intercooler piping is good. The truck runs like normal till about 1300 rpms, then say if you push the pedal halfway down, or to the floor......the truck just pops a burst of fuel rythmically...bout every 1 or 2 seconds, then you can let your foot off the gas and it will idle like everything is fine. And the smoke is black when it is popping like that, not blue or white. Is it something in the injector pump?

Possible injector failure , it happens , hit each exhaust port with a heat gun , see if ones hitting hotter or colder than the others. if you don't have a heat gun use a spray bottle and spray a little water see how they sizzle of. do this during first start up when engine is cold. injectors cannot seat and sometimes let compression back into the fuel system.
