Tapping Into Interior Lights

I am looking to install a LED that will activate when the interior lights are turned on for night-time driving. I am looking for a source around the bottom of the dash, near the steering wheel.

The LED has the built-in circuit protection. Has anyone has problems with wiring an LED to the interior lights??

THANKS...

Yes, I had a problem. I tried to wire an LED to the positive wire going to the map lights behind the overhead console. The problem was when the ignition is turned off, the puter limits/cuts 12 volt power to that particular circuit.

I had to get constant 12 volt power in the engine compartment from the hood light no less.

When you say "interior lights", I assume you mean the dash lamps? If so, I installed a 5 LED light bar above the center console to illuminate the cupholder area at night. I just tied it to the dimmer wiring for the heater control lighting. The LEDs dim with the dimmer ****. Works great!

Sorry....Just re-read the post. You mean the dome lights/map lights. It shouldn't be that tough. The wiring for those lights run up the A pillar. Should be able to tap in there.

Just looked in the service manual. The wire has a color code of "YL/LB" which I believe is Yellow/Light Blue tracer. This is the wire that comes out of the module and powers the dome lights, vanity lights, and the map lights. Hope this helps!

I'm a bit of a computard...so I'll see about getting you some pics. I bought the LED lamp bar from superbrightleds.com. Was 11 bucks, plus shipping. I bought the green one, kinda matches the dash/radio lamps.

I was looking to install an LED to light my toggle switch for my Pac Brake. Being that LEDs draw very little power, I was figuring maybe just running a direct line (fused, of course) from the battery. They would always be on, but they would NEVER drain the battery.

How does that sound??
