Ok I have a question about the size of tank I have. I have never driven past a third of a tank on the gauge, and the most fuel I have ever put in was 30 gallons. last night my gauge said two thirds of a tank, but when I filled her up I put 20 gallons( 2.44 a gallon OUCH) of fuel.

If that is the case and my gauge is correct I would have to have a larger than 35 gallon tank. Also I have the overhead console with the milage ,compass ,ETC. And that say's I should get 560 miles to a tank. But I have a hard time believing that.

In 2000 did dodge have any larger tank options?

There are only two sized tanks.
All Quad Cab Short Beds have a 34 gallon tank
and the Long Bed trucks have a 35 gallon tank

This info is out of the 2000 sales brochure.

35 gallons multiplied by 18 mpg (hopefully your highway mileage without your foot in its *** lol) = 630 miles.

i know it holds 34 gallons. i have run it that low before i found out on this board that isnt a good idea.

My tank on my 96 is a 35 gallon tank

I usually fill it up as soon as its down to 1/4th of a tank, I dont want to pay for air in the fuel or starve a pump in any means. Usually when i fill it up down the the 1/4 tank, give or take it takes in about 22-26 gallons..... and i usually get a lil over 450 miles minimum..... staying off of it, and if i really gun it, ive seen it as low as 325 miles...

anyone else's tank bowed up in the middle, at the bottom? Along the whole length of the tank mine's bowed in. I'm assuming I'm holding less than 35 gallons.

mine is not bowed in , it actully bulges a little. I started checking my tank with a ruler i ripped down to 3/4 of an inch. It is way more accurite than my dam gauge!!!

I've got a 2000, and I usually fill up between 1/8th and a quarter of a tank. I've had the truck since November of last year, and I have never once put more than 26 gallons in (even when the low fuel light comes on at 1/8th).

Do you think my guage is off, or was there an option for a smaller tank?

Same with mine.

They set the guage so there's a reserve when it reads "E", since the injection pump likes extra fuel for cooling,
and starting a Diesel that's run dry isn't a fun experience, and a lot of folk would end up having the Dealership do it, and they don't want to anymore than we do.

I thought the short box's only had a 29 gallon tank.

I had some specs for the short box having a 110 L tank and the long box with 135L tanks.. Roughly 29 and 35 gallons respectively.

In my 98 I have the 28 gallon tank. I always fill up before I hit the 1/4 tank mark and usually about 19 gallons go in. I know on my tank there is a high spot in the front of the tank by the filler and I can usually go 110 miles before the gauge even thinks about moving. Anyone know if a 34 or 35 gallon will bolt in? It would be real nice to go over 500 miles between fills.

I've got the 35 Gallon tank in my truck.

At about 1/4 tank it's about 20-22 gallons to fill. That is a heck of a reserve... I know the vP44 is still safe at that rate.

i would always let my fuel run down to empty and below. if i only knew about the vp-44 before i may have saved myself, but maybe not. i have pumped 34 gallons into my truck before. live and learn.

One of the first mods I did to my truck was to install a 60 gallon replacement tank from Aerotanks. My gauge just comes off the full mark at about 350-375 miles and takes 27 gallons to fill at 3/4 mark on the gauge about 500 miles. I once drove from San Fransico to Seattle on one tank just under 900 miles. I have only seen the low fuel light come on once and it took 46 gallons to fill.
